Posted October 16, 200618 yr comment_186034 Can anyone out there tell me the spline count, input shaft OD, and input shaft length measured from the mounting face of the trans (or any other dimensional info that might be helpful) for the 280ZX t-5?I'll also be looking for the appropriate bellhousing if anyone has one available.–Thanks for the assistanceMark Atkinson Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21948-280zx-t-5-input-shaft-specs/ Share on other sites
October 16, 200618 yr comment_186046 The bellhousing for the 280ZX T-5 is a match for any of the L Series (L24,L26, or L28) for the first and second generation Z. As far as I know the driveshaft is what has to be altered to fit between the tranny and diff on the 240Z - 280Z. Others on this site could probably give you more help and of course there is always Hybrid Z at http://hybridz.org/ that has lots of information on these types of mods. I had a 280ZX T 2+2 that I was going to use the turbo motor and the T-5 for one of my projects, but sold it instead to help finance a less modified 1970 240Z project -- still went with a 280ZX engine bored out with flat top pistons and a 280ZX five speed (non-T-5) though. October 16, 200618 yr comment_186057 If you actually have a T5 tranny the driveshaft is fat guy. The standard drive shaft is skinny. Both same length. October 17, 200618 yr comment_186092 Here is your solution. You can purchase a T-5 yoke that fits directly onto your stock driveshaft. You will still need to shorten your driveshaft (I think). I was looking into doing this swap and found this part number, 1203-265. Good luck. October 17, 200618 yr Author comment_186102 Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far.I realize the non-world class T-5 used in the 280zx is fairly straightforward swap, and I'll probably go that route. Why I was asking about the input shaft specs on the 280zx T-5 was to see if a Ford world-class T-5 (I have access to one) could be made to work by modifying the input shaft to work with the datsun clutch assembly. There are several choices of input shafts (sline count, length, etc) for the WC T-5, but what I'm finding is that it probably isn't a feasible project.I've been running stock 4 and 5 speeds in my road race car, and they're just not holding up, so I've been looking for something stronger, and with a better gearset choice...which the world-class T-5 has.Unfortunately there isn't any way to "upgrade" the non-world class T-5 in the 280zx, but it does seem to be a stouter piece than the Datsun 5-speed.I've given up on finding or being able to afford the "competition" Datsun 5-speeds, so I'm looking at other alternatives.
