Original AM Radio Blowing Fuse - Repair?

Does anyone know how to fix early AM radios?

I have an early, side antenna switch radio in my 70. It has been working perfectly until recently when it blew the fuse that is on the blue power wire. After replacing the fuse to no avail (blows the moment you turn the radio on), I reluctantly took the dash apart to get it out and troubleshoot it. On the bench, it continues to do the same thing. I have opened it up but I do not see anthing obvious i.e. power wire touching the case, burnt areas, or anything like that. For it to work perfectly then suddenly develop this problem leads me to believe is is a transformer or diode or something. Any ideas?

While I am in there I would love to replace the little bulb that lights up the dial as mine is burnt. Any ideas for replacement sources for these bulbs? I looked at the parts store but didn't see anything with the right size base.

I have a road trip in a couple of weeks, and would love to have a radio, even if just AM.
