Got the first "Heads up" from the main "Disorganizer" of the NFIBMT, Ed Pasini. If you plan, It's time to start planning......

------------------ Forwarded Message Follows ------------------

This year we will be going back to basics. That means NO ALL HANDS MEAL. Finding a restaurant, guaranteeing a minimum number of attendees, fronting the deposit, choosing the menu, collecting the money, and listening to the inevitable complaints flies in the face of our motto NON CRANIUS INVERTUS RECTUMUS. We will be in Paso Robles for the nights of April 12 and 13. Start you research now, find a restaurant, get your group together, make your dinner reservations and have your own party. That's what the NFIBMT has always been all about. Do your own thing.

9th Annual No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tour

THIS IS THE VINTAGE TOUR WHERE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE YOUR OWN CAR ON PUBLIC ROADS FOR FREE. DRIVERS WHO COMPLETE THE TOUR ARE PAID

Because of the mutual disrespect of the event co-founders the NFIBMT is now affiliated with the California Mille. If you have entered your car in the California Mille you can do the No Frills for no additional fee. Two classy vintage tours for the price of one.

Who can participate? Anyone with a pre 1976 motor vehicle

When & Where? Meet at 7:00am on Thursday April 12, 2007 at Arroyo Blvd. and Seco St. near the South end of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena

What does it cost? There is no entry fee. Participants are responsible for their own overnight motel arrangements and their own food

Overnight stops? Paso Robles on April 12h & 13th at Black Oak Motor Lodge 805 238 4740. Disorganizers have made no advance arrangements

What do I get? Three days of fun and fellowship with other car crazy people who love their old cars. No T Shirts, No Dash Plaques, No Grill Badges. All drivers who complete two very simple tasks are paid.

How do I sign up? You don’t. Just be at the Rose Bowl at 7:00am on Thursday, April 12, 2007. Get a copy of the route instructions and go.

We will depart promptly at 7:30am This is a free event, we have no incentive to wait if you are late

How do I get more information? To join our “exclusive” mailing list send you email address to NFIBMT@aol.com put NFIBMT Mailing list on the subject line

PLEASE COPY THIS NOTICE AND POST IT WHERE GEARHEADS WILL SEE IT. THERE ARE NO FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENTS OUR MOTTO: NON CRANIUS INVERTUS RECTUMUS

9th Annual No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tour NON CRANIUS-INVERTUS-RECTUMUS Why This is a No Frills Event and What you need to Know

One of the disorganizers has driven the entire route, but he has an unreliable metric odometer, so all mileage is estimated. Use a map and your best judgement.

The California map provided by the Automobile Club of Southern California, includes most of the roads on this tour (some roads are not well marked). Even the guy who lays out the route gets lost. If you have a GPS BRING IT

Start with a full fuel tank. Gas is available at several locations but there are some long stretches without gas. Keep your tank topped off.

You will need your drivers license, car registration and proof of current insurance to gain access to Ft. Hunter Liggett

Carry a cell phone. If you break down you are on your own. Other participants may stop and offer help, because they are fellow gear heads. However, you are ultimately responsible for your own vehicle.

For those of you who had no clue what Victor was talking about-like I didn't,

NFIBMT stands for No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tour.

It is a bunch of car Nuts with pre-'76 cars running an extended route together-the only thing provided and organized about the whole thing is the route and getting the word out! It sounds like a great deal of fun for those who are close enough to participate. I think Georgia is a little too far off their path...but since Victor posted about it, you can bet it is a blast!

but since Victor posted about it, you can bet it is a blast!

Thanks Will, It is a blast, and a challenge. If something can be an issue mechanically, It will arise during this run. I "Nut and Bolt" inspect for this run and never 100% sure I'm not going to flat bed her home.

This can be a Motoring Tour, if you prefer, but there is a core group of real "hard core" Canyon carving degenerates (I wont name names) who treat this three day event as more of an extended open road enduro. I had my moments, But at times, I was too exhausted to even try and rejoined the motoring tour crowd.

It's best to do this with a navigator. Especially if you intend to lead a fast group. Otherwise, you should follow the lead of someone who DOES know where they are going!

There are a bunch of Z cars that go each year. The Z's populate both the Motoring tour bunch and the canyon crazy bunch. I took my roadster last year and will be taking my new 510 this one.

If your a faster kittyKat, the roads WILL be challenging, amazing, hard, dangerous, the shoulders, non existent, the drop-off, shear and deadly. You are guaranteed to push through water hazards, dirt sections and narrow single track unimproved with woop-t-doos to try to throw you through the roof (buckle down baby). You are guaranteed rock chips, airdam damage and of course, bug laden windshields.

Motor touring will allow you to see fantastic central coast California in full spring bloom. Roads that you never knew existed before and will never forget the vistas of natural splendor that will be seen from the overlooks. The planned stops will be interesting and a few will be worth the trip itself. But of course, the trip is the main event.

Oh, and of course, there's the cars, I take it, you all do like classic cars, right? Do you like them in the show, our do you like them in your rear-view mirror? Do you like to know why you can't catch that silly, boxy, Alfa Guilia? Gee, I know his engine is much smaller than mine, I guess that means he's just a great F'n driver! That night, over margaritas at the "Bar Car" you ask "where did you learn to drive like that?". "Oh! that wasn't me" that alfa owner replies, "That was my Wife" "She's the fast one between us.", "When she drives, I just hang on and shut up".

Washing the dirt off you car during this event is considered BAD FORM. Any washing should be done by proceeding through the water hazards, way too fast.
