Posted October 22, 200618 yr comment_186630 Hi, I found a guy that was willing to sell me a hood / fenders and underskirt for pretty cheap as seen in the images below... Obviously, they need to be painted, but have no rust and are in like new shape. My question is that the hood does not have vents like my original hood show below; can I custom add vents to this hood or should i just leave as is? A few other questions; I really like this bumper and side body kit below... I guess my bumpers would need to come off, do i need any other parts to mount the body kit.. I would really like to get my car looking like the dark grey one above... Any idea what rims and paint color that is? Thanks for any feedback... -Danny Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22011-need-some-feedback-before-possibly-buying-this-hood-and-fenders/ Share on other sites
October 22, 200618 yr comment_186647 I'd leave it as is. Dont try putting vents in the bonet.Yes that kit replaces the bumper. you'd need to remove it.Looks like matt black to me. October 22, 200618 yr comment_186650 Get the great sheet metal, Paint it, put it on, and sell it if you come up with a vented hood to paint and install later! I wouldn't cut up excellent sheetmetal! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22011-need-some-feedback-before-possibly-buying-this-hood-and-fenders/#findComment-186650 Share on other sites
October 22, 200618 yr comment_186651 I agree. The 77-78 hood has cutouts made especially for those vents. It would take a pretty adept sheet metal man to replicate them on a non vented hood. Also, your bumpers look pretty good so you should be able to sell them at a fairly good price since they are NLA. The kit on the light color car is from MSA. Fairly easy to install. The one on the dark car looks similar but I'm not familiar with it. I don't care for the 'Camaro' hood scoop or the clear lights, however. October 23, 200618 yr comment_186750 Putting the vents on that hood would be very difficult. I looked at a 280 just the other day wondering if it would be easy to remove the vents. The vents have a "lip" that rolls up to the plastic incerts. It would take a VERY skilled metal worker to duplicate that. Go with the 240 style hood ... It looks cooler anyway, IMHO. October 23, 200618 yr comment_186763 where are you located? there are a few Z's over here in the local Sacramento PNP's that have vented 280Z hoods. October 27, 200618 yr comment_187364 I have a set of those side skirts you like in the MSA picture. They are from MSA and in perfect condition. They are currently on my 78 Driveway Queen. Get em before I list them on Ebay. October 27, 200618 yr comment_187365 Awe.... I would kill for steel in that good shape.... well not really. But here in Kentucky (where shoes and shirt are optional) so are good quality sources for steel. IMO, don't cut a perfectly good hood. I had to go to Gainesville, FL to get 1 decent fender..... October 28, 200618 yr comment_187399 I believe the grey car has an MSA kit as well. I am contemplating putting it on my 240.
