Hello , I'm Joe Bass and I have a 71 240 that is in very bad shape , everything from the seats backward is rusted and I can't get it to start . It turns over fine , any suggestions , it won't do anything when turning the key , have to turn over by jumping solenoid. I'm in Kentucky and could really use some Z friends here ! Does anybody know any Z people here ? Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for this car that I can download ?

Joe,

It could be a number of things. The first things that came to mind was either the ignition switch or loose/corroded wiring connection(s), maybe even the starter.

Consider spending a few dollars and getting the Haynes Manual, (Autozone, Checkers, Napa, etc.). It has wiring diagrams as well as troubleshooting sections. Also, try using the search function here, you'll find good info on tracking down problems.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your car!

First check the fusible link that connects the Starter to the wiring harness. If that link is dead the rest of the car's electrical is dead also....even the ignition circuitry.

Down by the starter, you'll see a short length of wire that connects to a somewhat oversized spade connector with an extra long plastic housing. That's the fusible link, don't recall the value right off the top of my head.
