Posted October 27, 200618 yr comment_187345 Here are some pics of the black leather cover I've been working on. I will have another one shortly in a color that is very close to the wood grain color on the originals. October 27, 200618 yr comment_187348 I wish the pictures were bigger, but from what I can see it looks great! The increased rim thickness from the leather is probably nice as well. Very nice work! October 27, 200618 yr Author comment_187357 Thanks Arne, Actually I believe the z wheels could stand a little extra padding under the covers which I may incorporate into the next one. This one definitely has a nice feel to it without any padding. Thanks again! October 27, 200618 yr comment_187358 It does look really good, but better pictures(more light and higer resolution) would show off your work better-I think the alternate color choice was a great idea! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22078-leather-covered-steering-wheel/#findComment-187358 Share on other sites
October 28, 200618 yr comment_187412 Looks great. Nice stitching. This would make a great alternative for those wanting to stay somewhat original but like the feel of a thicker wheel. Would we send our wheel to you for covering, or buy the cover outright and stitch it up ourselves?Currently I'm leaning in the direction of the wood wheel by Autotechnica, but I'm still undecided. I'd love to see something with a bit more padding. October 28, 200618 yr comment_187416 did you make the cover yourself?......if so, nice work Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22078-leather-covered-steering-wheel/#findComment-187416 Share on other sites
October 28, 200618 yr Author comment_187440 Thanks Fellas, Enigma, I would prefer you send me your wheel to cover. Minor variations in a wheel can alter the appearance of a cover just made from a pattern. You may want to wait til I get the one done in the leather that will look a lot like the original wood grain color. I believe it will be sharp and still retain the factory original appearance. I will probably put some padding in it as well.Saltycrackers, yes, I cut my own cover for each individual wheel. What do you guys think about this style of stitching, OR do you like the baseball style better? Thanks again for your comments Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22078-leather-covered-steering-wheel/#findComment-187440 Share on other sites
October 29, 200618 yr comment_187471 I think it looks great - It would work nice on the later models as well. The stitching looks good to me.
