I have got this in Japan.

I see this sometimes in Japanese auction but I have never seen in Ebay,I do not know why.

In this catalog,240Zs are 1970 model. But not so early, badges are white inlet Z. I think this catalog is for LHD 240Z,not specified for the U.S. General LHD catalog?

Note the engine bay picture, this engine must be early.Different steel fuel pipes and rubber hoses to the carbs, and surprising blue aircleaner. The body seems to me red,I believe this car is a same car which is used as a examnple in the first service manual and a broughchure featuring a red non-badged car.

Wonderful collection Kats! thanks for sharing.

"PM's Wednesday" Afternoon of that day sounds right, but you would have to wonder why "Afternoon"? Is October 2nd 1969 a significant date in the Fairlady Z/ 240 Z story?

Jim.

Hi Kats:

The Blue Air Cleaner seems to have been on the Euro Spec. Left Hand Drive Series I Datsun 240-Z's. Your brochure shows and Automatic Transmission.. so that could be for cars produced after 06/70...

The Belgium Brochure (marked Jan. 71) shows the Blue Air Cleaner as well - with a Red Series I car.

Jim,

*October 18th 1969 - First 'Press Preview' event held at Nissan ( their Ginza, Tokyo offices in this case, I believe ) to introduce the S30-series Z range.

*October 24th 1969 - Start of the Tokyo Motor Show, where the S30-series Z range was introduced to the general public for the first time.

*November 5th 1969 - First 'Test Drive' day, for the Japanese press to actually get hold of the cars and drive them. The results were seen in many of the November and December 1969, and January 1970 Japanese weeklies and monthlies.

All in all, quite a busy and important period for the S30-series Z range.........

Would have been nice to have had a grandstand view, I think.

Hello again Alan!,

I meant to say "22 October 1969"...not 2:stupid: Oh well..

Your info just about discounts the suggestion the 22nd was a momentous date in the release, i.e. "THE BIG DAY!" so.....I dunno! I reckon Enigma is closest.

Would have been nice to have had a grandstand view, I think.

Yeeessss wouldn't it ! It bugs me now to remember the motor show releases of what are now classic collectibles that I was present for... and never hung on to the handouts etc .

Kats,

What a great collection! You should know that the 20 December 1969 owner's manual came in two versions of the cover. As much as I can tell, the only difference is the cover. These are for 26th and 27th.

I see you note "3 holes" for the service manuals. Yes indeed the early service manuals were punched for a three hold binder. The paper used for the cover is different than later years also. It is a pebble textured paper. All the rest I have seen are smooth finish. My service manuals date 1 November 1969 and 15 August 1970

Hi Kats,

Not sure if I showed you this already, but the post about HLS30-00007 and the 1970 brochure got me thinking about it again. I got this photo from ebay Australia last year. It is the same red 240Z that was on the 1969 US brochure and I believe the same car used in the service manual. It looks like they just reversed the image to make it look like a RHD car. Note that they drew over the portion of the picture showing the front license plate with black marker, to cover the reverse image of the word Datsun. On the back side it says "Wed. P. 34". I am guessing that this photo was used in an article about the introduction of the 240Z on Wednesday Oct 22, 1969, like your US press photos. Interesting that they would use a reverse image of a LHD car instead of a photo of a RHD car, since they had several RHD cars produced before the Oct 1969 Tokyo auto show.

Hi Mike,

I have never seen your picture, this is very interesting.Thanks.

It reminds me I have a paper which is "Model guide", I am not for sure this is published as DATSUN official or not.

The rearview shot, this came originaly from JDM fairlady. This car does not have rear over rider(but hand drawing) , JDM/Euro tail lights, no-rear side marker.

The D on the hub cap is also hand drawing, emblems too.I think a mirror on the front wing is deleted.Fuel door key sylinder and rubber protector on the rear bumper side end is good reason for suspecting JDM Fairlady.

Today I added Nov 1969 Slide film No.2, L24 section. You will be happy these factory photos, and much better colour condition than No.1 General section.

Does anyone see the chassis number and Engine number?

I think the engine is L24-107, if this is correct, it matches to the number on the owners manual.

So, I believe 1971 owners manual shows a chassis number HLS30-0000? This could be matches to this slide film car. What do you think of it?
