Dan,

Do you think we are looking at two different part numbers and the part variance between the two? I'm not surprised by the discrepancy between the diagrams in the manuals and our photographs of "original" configurations. I have seen this before. The most striking example I recall was with the carburetor float bowl vent tubes. With the Nashville show coming up and over 50 240Zs registered, I'll be looking at this issue with delight!

The above b&w photo is another interesting find.  I have an arcade card, ( same size as a postcard with no printing on the back) of the very same photo of the above Z.  However, at the bottom my has the following printing.  "Datsun 240-Z  Printed in USA  Courtesy of Parker Advertising, Inc.,  Jason Hailey Photography."

Blue, I really really love this photo, this red 240Z is my favorite. Thank you for sharing it,

is this color version provided from Nissan too?

I am still not for sure that this red 240Z is #00007 , because the bracket for the master vac hose is ordinary one.

I think we talked about this before , Mike B also pointed it out. Very early car has different bracket for the hose.

If possible I would like to see your 1969 240Z's bracket .

I'm happy you both liked it!

I think one of the troubles in identifying the car is "Q3 1969 red overlap" that causes confusion:

1. some early Z promotion used a red car driving in Japan

2. some early Z promotion used a red car driving  in the USA (007)

3. the early FSM manuals used a red car in the photos

The missing OK sticker helps as all photos of HLS30-00006, 7,  & 8 do not seem to have them.

It would be nice to identify the location of the nice red photo above that overlooks a bay. Some of the early silver 008 photos seem to be in Beverly Hills. The red one above may be in San Francisco area?

Kats, I am glad you asked about the brackets ... some confusion now unfolds:

HLS30-00147 has the later bracket:

HLS30-00249 has the early bracket:

Clearly this early Owner's Manual Cover  is the red badge-less car above used in the maintenance photos.

Many many pictures ! Thank you.

I tend to think very early cars like "primary production prototype" would have an early bracket , would not they?
Let's say the cars like S30/HLS30/HS30/PS30-00001 to 00010 or so need to be checked.

About the red car with the couple, it has a later bracket and a fuel rail is an ordinary type,  And also a plastic cover on a voltage regulator, a tub on an inspection lid , they are not seen in a very early cars which can be seen in a service manuals or parts catalogs. These things make me think this car may not be 00007.

The sales brochure has code 0370 on the back, could it mean "issued May 1970" ?
If so, it was possible to use later car like made in Dec 69 or Jan 70 or even Feb 70.

What do you think ?

PS this picture shows the car does not even has an early bracket for the hose, though. Looked not well organized, still working.
