Posted November 2, 200618 yr comment_188108 Well I have some friends with some nice old school rides. N/A 84' Mazda RX7N/A 88' Porsche 944 2.5LN/A 88' Toyota Supra 3.0LN/A 91' Mazda Miata 1.6LN/A 95' Mazda MX-6 2.5L(btw, all manual)I was wondering, how would my 240z compare to these other guys for 0 to 60 timings and then on the windy roads around here in Tennessee. I think that I would only loss out to the Supra for 0 to 60, but for around the corners, and the average speed that I would be able to keep around these corners, I am not sure how I would fair against the RX7, Miata and 944. Though I think that my only competition around the corners would be the 944 as it is light and has good power to push the car forward, while the Miata and the RX7 seem to push too little power even for their light weight. Not sure about that MX-6 though. What do you guys think? November 3, 200618 yr comment_188114 My Z has taken all of those cars in stock condition. The 944 owners used to get pissed that they were being upstaged by a tired old Datsun. November 3, 200618 yr comment_188135 I have a 1986 944 N/A, and the 280Z I just sold was quicker than it was. If the 944 is a turbo, you won't beat it. I'm not sure how my 944 will stack up against my 240Z. I'll know sometime in January :cheeky: The 944 corners better than any car I've ever owned and it has an old, stock suspension. What it lacks in the straight-aways, it makes up for in the corners. November 3, 200618 yr comment_188148 If your Z is showroom stock with the wimpy 175-14 tires I would think you have a hard time, but very few street driven Zs at this age are bone stock. That being said the proper modifications like tires, rims, swaybars and the like transform your car into G-machine so it all depends...and don't forget the driving skill part of the equation! November 3, 200618 yr Author comment_188155 Umm... Yeah, pretty much bone stock for now. Currently I am about to order 195/70 performance tires. I am going to see if I can fit 205's on there but I am not sure if I can. I am doubting that the stock rims can handle 30mm of extra tire.Though I will end up getting some little things here and there that mostly improve handling, with a few minor engine modifications, but that is all. November 3, 200618 yr comment_188160 It is getting difficult to find a performance tire in a 205 /60 X 14 , much less a 70 . And yes the 205s will fit. November 3, 200618 yr comment_188164 My buddy has an '85.5 944 with an S2 motor in it. I don't think my 240 will beat it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22155-my-240z-against-my-buddies-rides/#findComment-188164 Share on other sites
November 3, 200618 yr Author comment_188219 It is getting difficult to find a performance tire in a 205 /60 X 14 , much less a 70 . And yes the 205s will fit.Oh nice, 205's will fit! [devious]Over at tirerack they have some 205's and 195's sport tires for 70/R14's. Get pretty good ratings over there too. I wanted 75's in some sport tires but those they don't have. I think that only in 185's they got 75's, but I don't want 185's.205's here I come!!!:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22155-my-240z-against-my-buddies-rides/#findComment-188219 Share on other sites
November 4, 200618 yr comment_188303 Even 215 /60 14s will fit without rubbing. Thats what I am running with stock springs. The manual steering gets a little heavy though.Good Luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22155-my-240z-against-my-buddies-rides/#findComment-188303 Share on other sites
November 4, 200618 yr comment_188304 I'm running 225/60 14s on stock susp. with no problems. Mine is a 78 and I don't know if the clearance is different than a 240Z.
