Posted November 5, 200618 yr comment_188407 On my 280Z-when you move the function lever for the heater, is it supposed to 'click' into the different stops for the different modes? ( vent, heat, biLevel, recirc) I think my controls are missing some kind of spring-loaded thing. It would help to have a pick of the thing to maybe make the part- no help from the microfiche or FSM on this.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22188-heater-function-lever-problem/ Share on other sites
November 6, 200618 yr comment_188465 TomoHawk,From memory, there is a ball(BB) in that mechanism that provides the click. It sounds like your mechanism has lost one! It is held in compression by its interference fit. I have a HVac control from a 76/77 system out, tomorrow I will see if I can get a pic of it.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22188-heater-function-lever-problem/#findComment-188465 Share on other sites
November 6, 200618 yr Author comment_188481 Thanks Will, I think there's supposed to be a slooted tube-thing on the end to keep the ball riding on the plate, and either a ball, or a rounded piece of rod in the end, held in place with a spring.the pic would be very welcome.thx a 10^6! November 8, 200618 yr comment_188764 One of the control levers on my 72 240z heater controls is stuck solid. Last winter I pushed the vent lever to the right and it is now stuck. I wonder if it has something to do with that ball. November 8, 200618 yr Author comment_188767 I think you'll need to take the faceplate off your control levers to see what's up with that. Hopefully it's not the vacuum controls. November 8, 200618 yr comment_188801 I'd be very surprised if the 240Z used vacuum to control the HVAC ducting. And since I've never seen a vacuum hose leading through the FW on my 73' I'd have to say that's extremely unlikely. I'm thinking more along the lines of a rusted control cable or pivot point. I've never seen one apart so I'm not sure what's in there. November 8, 200618 yr comment_188810 Sounds like a control cable issue or a frozen door/valve to me to.Take out your radio, follow the frozen cable to the other end, and you will have the answer. The cable system is easy and traightfolward to follow, just a little tough to get to(laying on you back in the footwell with safety glasses on is certianly not as easy as changing the spark plugs!!).Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22188-heater-function-lever-problem/#findComment-188810 Share on other sites
November 13, 200618 yr Author comment_189421 I got a pic of the place where the springy thing goes on the endof the lever. I didn't notice before, but I think it's screwed on.
