TomoHawk Posted November 6, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2006 Can you get a replacement for the plastic pushrod/cable that's in the 280Z power antenna? Mine broke right at the reel. I could possibly splice it with some brass tubing & GOOP. I'm still cleaning the insides, and if the motor works, I'll want to put a new cable into it, and an Up/Down switch at the radio. Also, how can you get the mast out of the housing, if I need to? There were two screws going through the housing & mast, and after removing those, it seems the mast is stuck or rusted in.I can get some photos.thx
hls30.com Posted November 6, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2006 I have seen the stuf sold before, but I just used weed trimmer cable in the same diameter as what was there. Will
TomoHawk Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 6, 2006 It's a good idea, but where do you find trimmer line that's that heavy?
rtaylor Posted November 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2006 Lowe's or Home Depot carries the heavy line. I saw it the other day while in Home Depot. The heavy stuff is a hair smaller than the original plastic antenna line though.
TomoHawk Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted November 6, 2006 OK, I'll go look, but all the summer stuff is off the shelves since September. I only need a couple meters at most too. Maybe a mower shop has some. thx mate
dogma420 Posted November 6, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 6, 2006 ....seem to remember MSA sells a 'refreshener kit' that includes the plastic line specific to the S30 stock electric antenna....just a fyi--
Arne Posted November 6, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 6, 2006 Recent inquiries to MSA indicate that the mast replacement kit is NLA.
rtaylor Posted November 6, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 6, 2006 And be careful buying a replacement mast from Ebay. I bought one that was advertised to fit a 240z: the mast is smaller in diameter and the line was not round but a corrugated flat track, sort of like a M60 tank tread (only smaller). Now it is sitting in my unwanted parts box.
TomoHawk Posted November 7, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted November 7, 2006 If I was able to get a new cable, how do you get the end out of the bottom of the mast? It seems to be pinned in? thx
TomoHawk Posted November 18, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted November 18, 2006 I saw some replacement masts on eBay, but they were for a ZX, and from the picture, the cable looked thicker. I've seen most newer antennas withthe heavier cables, and assume most newer power antenna masts used thicker cables for better performance & longer reliability. Would a ZX mast & cable for the S30 power antenna?Randy-J.C. Whitney sells the same mast with the corrugated lift cable; it looked something like a toothed belt.thx
TomoHawk Posted December 4, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted December 4, 2006 Hey! I actually managed to get a new mast on my motor! I bought a lot of old Z antennas off eBay for cheap, and I got a good antenna mast off of one. The original antenna motor from my car was still working (all 3 eBay antennas were quirky) I managed to get the good mast onto my motor and all I need to do now is to test/fix the antena power wiring in my car, and install the antenna unit, and a control switch. Too bad those rockers that Enrique found at Radio Junk are all NLA. BTW, I have a questionable 240Z antenna unit for free; just pay the shipping.
