Hello all,

First I just wanted to say that I lurked around the site all day reading various replies and I just had to register. The majority of posters here seem to be knowledgeable about their Z cars and whatnot. I see a kind of maturity not too prevalent in online car forums.

The 240z has always been my dream car, and hopefully I can locate one in the not-to-distant future for restoration.

Welcome to the forum. I've seen several nice Z's for sale in TX over the last few months. Good luck with you search. Don;t be in too much of a hurry. The right one will come along.

Good to see another person that considers the Datsun 240-Z to be their Dream Car.

It might be helpful if you could elaborate a bit more about what you have in mind, when you say you want to locate one for future restoration? Perhaps we can then offer advice or steer you to a car that meets your desires/needs.

For example - does that mean:

A) Your thinking of buying a pretty nice car you can drive today and not be ashamed of, then perhaps in two or three years you want to do a complete and proper "as it left the factory" restoration.

OR

You plan to find a car that within a few months - you will disassemble and restore - with the intention of enjoying the process of restoration itself

OR

C) Are you thinking that anything you can afford to buy today - will most likely need to be fully restored at some point in the future as you can afford it.

Definitely A, with the exception of the "original factory" spec. Having limited knowledge about the intricacies of the 240z, I've long dreamt of putting in a modern powerplant, suspension, and brakes. I've also been toying with the idea of a modern interior. I'd like to run into a 240 that isn't completely rusted, but I understand that rust is inevitable with 30 year old cars. And one of the daunting things to think about is sourcing out old and rare replacement parts.

Hopefully as a industrial design student at UH, I'll learn a lot of important skills that will aid me in a future restoration. As of now, the only way I'd get my hands on a 240z anytime soon would be to slowly save up for one, so I can do plenty of research in the meantime

First of all welcome to our group . And you are correct there is a great deal of knowledge on tap here . If your intent is to change to a different power plant, different interior and change the car from a 240Z , to a v-8 something . Why are you looking for a 240 . You will find 280s to be much less costly and plentiful , same for parts Also. Hybrid is a web site that is into what you are talking of . Over the past 30 plus years there have been many different engines installed in these cars . Good luck in your quest for a clean Z . Gary
