Pop's Z Posted November 18, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2006 Hi all, I'm about to store my Z for the winter. I would like to disconnect the battery and have been looking for a disconnect switch as I don't really want to take the terminal off and on if I want to go for a cruise on those really nice days. Any suggestions? What do you all use? What's the good ones...what's the ones to avoid? Thanks in advance.Mike
gnosez Posted November 18, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2006 Try Summit or any other racing parts website. Your local auto electrical or speed shop might have them too. Quality is what you want so stay away from the autozones, etc. for this one.Mine is located in the firewall just between and down from the hatch plate and the linkage arm pivot. That way I can get at it while opening the hood. I take it out as an added theft-prevention devise. From a bad battary experience I switched to a 24F (positive post is no longer under the body cross member) battary. You'd need to get new cables for that. A worthwhile upgrade..... kinfish Posted November 18, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2006 Cutout switch installed in series with the battery negative lead is the way to go. I bought my switch via the internet for $39 in 2003. It is made by "Flaming River" and includes a right angle mount bracket which fits nicely on the fender panel, foward of battery inside engine compartment. This is a well made switch that features a removable plastic key that also acts a theft deterrent when you need it. Well worth the money ..... I no longer worry about the 36 year old wiring system shorting out and burning my house down.
Mr Camouflage Posted November 19, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2006 I just use one of the ones that bolts to the terminal, then the lead bolts to the other end, and you just unscrew the knob to open circuit the connection. No drilling and mounting brackets, extra wires etc. Simple enough if you aren't going to be using the car very often.
