Ideas and opinions needed please

My Z is now down to bare metal inside and that really stick awful jute fiber board stuff. Does anybody have any idea on how to get that garbage out of my car so i can start on the interior?

When I stripped my car down to the metal shell, the area that gave me the most trouble was the inner firewall. I used acetone, lacquer thinner, scotch brite and a wire brush to remove it. It wasn't a fun job but it went pretty fast. Because I was going to paint the insides, I didn't care what effect the cleaning had on the paint.

A heat gun and putty knife followed by a die grinder with a braided wire wheel then lacquer thinner and scotch brite worked for me. Not a fun job no matter how you do it.

I might have misunderstood what you were talking about.

If you're referring to the tar-mats on the floors, many here have used dry ice to get those up. I used a putty knife and a hammer, then cleaned up the metal with lacquer thinner. If I were to do it again, I'd try the dry ice.

What I was talking about in my first post was removing the adhesive used to secure the firewall insulator and the vinyl trim pieces.

If you're talking about the tar mats, kero will soften it up, you can buy parts wash kero with a high flash point that will be reasonably safe, but you don't have the option of hardening it again, it will stay soft and sticky.

I argee with the heat gun if you have one available.
