I bought my first 240Z ('72 HLS30-59758) in October, it had been sitting for 9 Yrs. I had to tow it home as it didn't run. Of course it has rust in the common places don't think I'll have to replace the floor pan though. I've replaced the entire brake system, (MC, calipers, wheel cylinders). I've rebuilt the carbs with a ZTherapy rebuild kit. It runs real well. I love these old Z's. A few weeks ago I found another 240Z ('70 HLS30-04312) well you guest it. I bought it and drove it home. Underneath is pretty rusted. I don't think I want to restore it, so I'm gonna use it as a parts car. This website has been a great help. The site has gone down a few time lately, and I'm biting my nails waiting for it to come back up. Any members live in northern Utah? I'm in Logan about an hour and a half north of Salt Lake City. Just want to say thanks to you seasoned Z owners for all the great posts. Us rookies really use this website and really appreciate the help.

Welcome to the group, there is so much useful info here, not to metion the fun to be had with like minded folks. Get yourself used to the search function, it will guide you to many solutions (and more questions).

You might want to reconsider restoring #4312, a lower number car is nice to have.

Congratulations on getting bit by the Z Bug. I'm on my sixth and if it weren't for this website, I'd be light years behind where I am now with regards to my 240Z restoration.

On your two cars, if you're REALLY up for a challenge, consider restoring the 1970. I'm assuming the rust is repairable and it has a numbers matching engine. The VIN is pretty low and it would keep another 1970 from going to the crusher.

If not, consider putting it up for sale after you've taken the parts you need, someone else might bring her back to life.

You know I have considered restoring#04312 but it will need new floor pans and rails as well as many other rust repairs. The interior is in bad shape. I'm really contemplated not parting it out, and just holding on to it. I've already got a good start on my 72Z. So I'll just continue on it, and probably leave the '70Z alone for now.

Welcome! I have very fond memories of Logan. I met my future wife while we were both stationed at Hill AFB. We would dive up to Logan often and spend time at the park there by the stream and feed the ducks and geese. I recall that was the place where I decided she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. 19 years later, I am still with her.

Welcome to the club and thank you for your service to our country. Yes, it's a disease....my son and I bought a '72 in February of 2004 and a couple months later bought our '71. But we love it!

I agree with Bruce and Dave, your '70 is a low VIN and something that would be great for you to hold on to and restore in the future. Floor pans are relatively inexpensive and if you can find a good auto body welder who is reasonable, it will be well worth the expense. My son and I bought a set of the "Premium" floor pans from Motorsport for our '72 and they turned out great. You can also buy other replacement body parts from Tabco. Just look them up on the Internet. Good luck!

If you store the '70, put it somewhere dry!

If you don't want to tackle it as aproject, consider selling it to someone who would before parting it out-72 specific parts are easy to find inexpensively, parts specific to the '70 are much more difficult to find, and though they are interchangeable in some cases, a restoration of the '70 would require pieces from a '70! Keeping it as found would be better for any future restoration.
