I read through this and just had to laugh!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1973-Datsun-240z-Christmas-is-coming_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ004QQitemZ140057941270QQrdZ1

"...it is not perfect by any means but no matter what you do to it in upgrades it will be worth more than any other Z you ever will own."

ROFL Haaahaahahaahahhahhaahhaaa!ROFL ROFL

My '72 is worth more in pieces(almost all are new old stock) than this car is together and running. I could probably put my lighting and dash on ebay and get more than what this car will go for(every part of every light assembly for the car is NOS as is the dash and everything in it)

I would imagine most of the members here will have something worth more when they finish their projects

" will continue upgrading this car and if it doesn't sell on here... this winter it will be painted and the price will go up... "

ROFL ROFL HaahaaahhaaahahhahhaaROFL

If it didn't sell at the price you have on it, you are going to put more money in it an up the price!

If the car wasn't running or had some major flaw putting money into correction and upping the price could be justified-but the paint is probably not the issue....nor would adding more upgrades help out.

The car is simply an upgraded '73 with some body work, a bunch of aftermarket parts, cut springs, and parts from several different years of Zs. I don't SEE any part or combination thereof that maket it a "once in a lifetime opportunity"-well maybe if both floormats(only part of one is pictured) are in excellent shape...

That said, it is not a bad looking car, but since he doesn't have pictures of any of the stuf that comes with the car, the perfect frame rails or floors, and hasn't taken the time to swap the wheels and tires(even though they were ready for swapping when he put together the ad), we can make assumptions about why...

(shorter wheels make it drag the ground, the pieces that aren't pictuired are in poor shape...etc)

If the car was actually a thourough and well done restoration and not modified, it would be worth more with all of the things he says will come with it, but as a car pieced tgether with parts from other years, off the shelf additions and substantial body alterations("metal fender flares") is is simply another modified Z.

After saying all of that, the car doesn't look bad, and if I were going to consider it, I would have to take a magnet to the car, the carpet out, and go over it to find out if the quietness isn't due to an abundance of composite materials or bog!

His disclaimer leads me to think he found something he didn't list as a selling point.

Oh, I don't know, Will. I think this one tops you post. I especially like how the front end from a Firebird was grafted on. Somehow with the new front end, the car picks up a Porsche 944 feel, I really don't know what to think, other than it's a mess.

That one does look a bit odd, but at least the seller knows what he has, and seems to have some ide that it may not be "worth more than any Z you will ever own".

The buy it now doesn't bother me in either auction, but on the auction you brought to the table, 500 miles in the last 15 years-doesn't sound like a dependable car to me-even as a drag car. Asked to leave the track because of a lack of safety equipment either, that was 15 years ago, or...

He evidently hasn't installed the safety equipment or been back to the track...just leaves me with more questions...

zbane, you do realize that the 240z you show is a heavily modified Z. While he may have grafted a Firebird nose on there, it also has a stroked SBC 350. All in all, seems like a decent buy (reserve is unknown).

ktm,

yes I realize it's modified, and I actually respect it on this one. The time and trouble that the owner went through on the body is impressive, and I think it turned out pretty well, unlike the yellow Camaro conversion that some may remember.

Both these listed auctions are trying to sell thier cars for what they put in them, and that's the funny part, not so much how their cars came out.

All in all it looks to be a nice car but I really hate it when ppl don't post pics of the areas that really matter to those "in the know". I believe this car has been listed on eBay once before by this owner. If not there somewhere else. The owner's comments leads one to believe that he really does not want to part with it, but it's really only "special" to him.

The one thing I really like about the car is the deep dish old school wheels, and they're apparently not for sale with the car.......
