Distributor Help

I just got the engine back from the builder and I am starting to reassemble! I picked up a electronic distributor with the E12-80 modual on it but it has no cap and rotor. My original wont fit but I have no idea what year it came off of. I need to buy the parts but need to know what year to tell the parts guy for the rotor and cap. I assume 83 would be a good guess but if anyone knows for sure it would save me the trouble. I am also wanting to can the manual fuel pump for a electric if anyone has any input I would appreciate it. On another note I am pulling out the ac unit and will most likely be getting rid of it if anyone is interested. I will list it in the parts section later.

I believe the E12-80 was used for the 79 and 80 model years then they went to the E12-92 module till 83. The caps and rotors may be the same for those years but I cant confirm that.

Cap and rotor from '79-83 non-turbo is what you want.

One more thing , the part the dist bolts onto that then is connected to the block , must be from a ZX . The 240 part will not allow you to set the timing correctly . Just a note , all the non turbo ZX engines used the same dist. The manual trans have a different advance curve than the automatic equipped Z . Centrifugal advance starts at 600 RPM and is at full advance at 1250. It takes 5.90 inches of vacuum to start the advance and will be at 9* @ 11.6 inches For a total of 17.5* . This is with the timing set at 0* BTDC . To identify which dist you have , there are numbers stamped on the centrifugal advance but you must remove the advance plate to see them . My '79 dist part number is D6K8-02 And I removed it from a manual trans Z . The numbers stamped on my cent advance are 7--- something and the automatic part are stamped with 9 something . It's been almost 6 years since I had it apart and not all the information is in my notes . Sorry , Gary

Thanks guys, I found the problem with the lower mount but was lucky in that the guy that sold me the distributor gave me one extra with the E12-92 modual. I used that base to mount and it seems right but I will not know til I get the cap and check TDC cyl 1. The builder set it to it and it looks like it will point right. I will get the cap and rotor today and check back.
