Rear strut top speaker enclosures?

Those are not speaker enclosures, they are factory issue seat belt mechanism covers from a 280Z. I'll try to find the PNs for you.

Evidently my club cd has been attatcked by a 2 year old, I'll have to get a polishing kit and if it works put up a baby gate!!!

Good idea on the speaker enclosures, though.. Even if those are just seat belt connections, it would be a pretty sweet place to put speakers. MSA sells a box that installs just in front of the rear tail-lights. It's a replacement for the plastic rear panel and fits two 6x9 speakers. Quality and fit are awesome. I just wish they made a vinyl or a leather version.

Will, you've helped out a TON on this club. I'll send you a replacement CD. Send me your shipping info in a PM and I will sent it to you this weekend.

Mike,

I really appreciate the offer, and may take you up on it, but let me see if I can cure the issue with a wee bit of warm water, a pass through the disk buffer and some elbow grease first! I couldn't be active on the site and enjoy it as I do if you didn't put it out there! Thank You.

In really taking a look at the blemish it looks more like a dried swipe of jelly than a scratch-no way am I taste testing my theory though.

While I am soaking my disk (does that sound as bad to read as it does to type?) I will try to find a set of those covers,i believe I have two sets. I know they are held on with plastic rivets of screws into a sheet metal bracket that bolts under the seat belt bracket via the strut studs-and can be bolted o without the seatbelt brackets in a 240/260. I'll see if I can't round ta set up and take some pictures and measurements-it wold have to use a small speaker, and the seat belt mechanism would have to be let go, but as a seatbelt anchor, the top of the rear strut it is not at good height on a 240z anyway.

Thanks, you guys are great, I do appreciate your responses and feel like a real dummy, it's not the first time....

I will have to think about how I can make some.

Back in the 80's when I had Z's I made a speaker enclosure that sat on the flat section forward of the rear strut towers and went all the way across.

It was made from two pieces of wood that were hinged and when sat down formed a triangular cross section, it had four speakers in it that faced up toward the seats and was padded.

It had a good capacity as an enclosure and when needed could be just lifted up, folded up because of the hinges and moved forward when I had to carry something larger in the back.

Any way I will think about the strut top enclosures.

Cheers Rob

would you guys be interested in a speaker pod that sits atop the strut tower, houses a 3". or 4" or 4"X 6" 2-way speaker?????

I've been thinking about the same thing as "RP975" but was'nt real sure on the concept of it or what people would like. So let me know, I'll go make some measurements while the Z is in Limbo (preping for paint) and see what's feazable ( height, length, width, where to run the wire? Ect, Ect.

let's see if I can get this picture on here.....

this is with a 4X6" speaker and there would be a grill over it with speaker cloth. I'm thinking Black vinyl with black grill clothe to make it blend right in to the tower.

You would have to premount a mounting plate (to screw into) onto the tower using the stock strut bolts. It definately would'nt go any where. what do you think?

I'm thinking 3/16" ABS sheets or maybe start with 1/8" plywood then fiberglass it to reinforce the structure. I'm working on the details tonight.

The ABS is formable and sandable to make every thing smooth, then I could put 1/8" foam then Black vinyl over that to make it look as stock as possible.

I'll let ya know when I figure it out.

Dave.

Back to the garage, I'm working on a cardboard template at the moment
