Posted November 29, 200618 yr comment_190908 One of my long term goals is to re-do the wiring in my car and I happened on this ready-to-close auction on e-bay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240z-240-z-OEM-Wiring-Harness-Complete-Uncut_W0QQitemZ320054447174QQihZ011QQcategoryZ10076QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemIs there a reliable way to know if this will fit in my 7/73 (no A/C) car? It would be nice to have and stash away until I can take on the whole project, as it appears to be in decent shape and thay aren't too easy to come by.Thanks!-m Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22449-wiring-harness-will-it-fit/ Share on other sites
November 29, 200618 yr comment_190909 It will fit. The wiring harness were typically the same they just didn't use the connections for the options you didn't have. November 29, 200618 yr comment_190914 Note that from the numbers given, it is not a complete harness. It looks to be the dash harness pair from a 240Z built between 10/72-7/73, and the small mini-harness from the fan switch to the blower. That's all, no engine compartment or body harnesses. November 29, 200618 yr Author comment_190918 Ahhhhh... see that's why I come here =) Good to know, but may still be a worthy investment for me unless you would recommend otherwise -- my fusebox is something of a mess (I really need to get in there and figure out who connected what to what). Thanks for the responses! November 29, 200618 yr comment_190920 If your engine compartment and body wiring seem OK, the dash harness pair may be all you need. Just make certain that this one hasn't been mucked with too badly for aftermarket stereo installations. December 1, 200618 yr comment_191183 mimregi,I had to combine 2 underdash wiring harness to make 1 solid one. I have a '73 as well and unfortunately, the harnesses are not interchangeable. I spent $50.00 on each of mine. I ended up throwing the original one away. It was cut and splice 37 times. I also had to do that to the engine bay and body harness. The price is a good one. Hopefully it is not too butchered. Good luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22449-wiring-harness-will-it-fit/#findComment-191183 Share on other sites
December 1, 200618 yr comment_191216 My '73 build date 8/73 had cobbed wiring to the extent that I replaced the entire wiring in the car . I used a '72 Z loom . The only differences , is the '72 does not have intermittent wipers and the push button wind shield washer is different. I still haven't figured the wipers yet . However they work fine but only 2 speed. The rest of the wiring is a plug and play. That is if you use the total loom . '73 they started using large connectors instead of several small ones where the loom from the engine compartment connects to the dash and rear units. Also if you convert to the early loom the multi switch for the lights and wiper has different color wires and you will need to figure which goes to what there , but the later switch will work fine. I have had my Z back together for about 2 yrs and driven around 8K with no wiring trouble . EScanlon was a tremendous help with this .
