He had a big bag of plaster, a box of paints and has been watching what Datsun Stuf sells for...

I have seen that (or something like it) on ebay a couple of times over the years,

But the paint always looks too fresh to be over 40 years old...

As I recall, they did have a 'Datsunman' commercial campaign going back in the late 70s, maybe into the early 80s. But that was, as I said, Datsunman not 'Datman'. Must have been a campain for that individual dealership, Escondido Datsun, which does show up in my 'Fall 1977 Datsun Dealer Directory'.

looks like something he made...

Maybe not. Check out these links:

A review of the DatMan bank from Triad Z Club.

A thread from North West Datsun Enthusiasts. Scroll way down and you'll find three black and white pictures taken in the lot of Escondido Datsun, which show DatMan painted on the side of the buildings.

Thanks for the link, Arne. At first, I was quite skeptical, but after reading the Triad article and then realizing who wrote it, I find validity in what appears to be outright craziness. Learn something new every day!

Thanks for the info. and pictures this will forever be forged into my brain and in my archives.

BTW: Datman sort of looks like the " Hawaiian Punch" man with a mask. LOL

Maybe not. Check out these links:

The Datsun Man thing I spoke of involved TV commercials. They even had stickers you could get at the dealers. I wasn't doubting the validity of the 'Datman' bank but nothing in those links indicate that any dealer other than Escondido Datsun was involved in the Datman thing unless I'm reading them wrong.

Well whadda you know........ I think I'm gonna pass on the DatMan wannabe Hummel. To each his own.

Yeah, those old school Datsuns have always peaked my interest. I think it was the 72-74 range that I always liked.
