I'm not sure if anyone here would appreciate this car, but you never know.

My mate recently got a Toyota Century. So naturally, I wanted to take some photos. It was our Sunday adventure a week ago. Enjoy.

First stop, back alley. Unfortunately it was a No Standing area, and would you believe it we took no more than one photo before Mr. Inspector came walking around the corner. So we escaped like loonies.

The valet dudes were awesome, and let us take shots right outside the main entrance. They were gobsmacked by the car and kept checking it out, which was cool considering what they must deal with on a daily basis.

There was a lovely road I took note of on the way to the Casino, so we went back for a couple more to end the day.

The Century is such a beautiful car, I wish so much that they had been sold here in the US. Of course, I wish the same for the Skyline, and many, many others, but what can one do (besides import)?

In the glamour casino shot, I can fully imagine Diplomatic plates and fender flags on the car, and I imagine that was the destiny for many of these.

Your friend did very well getting this car, it seems to be in truly magnificent condition.

By the way, Alfadog, are you a photographer? If not, you should be.

I don't know about Watanabes. They are a little too racey I think. Actually, wheels are a difficult problem with this car. Not too sure what would work well. For the time being, it will remain stock.

To answer some questions,

This Century is a 1987. Basically, the Century didn't change much from 1967 until 1997 when it was completely redesigned from the ground up (though, it still looks very similar). They went through a few different engines - this I believe is a 4 litre pushrod V8. The Century wasn't sold in Australia either, this one is an import.

With Centurys it seems that the new ones are very expensive, and the old ones also expensive, but the ones in the middle are very cheap. Expect something like this to cost $7-14k AUD. Not bad for Toyota's flagship. The newer ones are V12, and still are worth quite a bit from what I can see.

Thank you all for the kind comments, I am glad you guys appreciate it!!! Some of the features include remote control for rear incl. radio and a/c, eight electric windows, massaging rear seats, corner-seeking headlights and the centre section of the back of the front passenger seat folds back so that the rear passenger can put their feet up if so desired LOL. Not bad for 1987.

I like to think of it as a Japanese Rolls Royce. :)

Toyota doesn't like many people to have this car. You can't just walk into a showroom and buy one. You must be a certain kind of person . . . Corporate executive, prominent politician, etc. Heck, even the gangsters can't buy them new! In fact, most of them aren't even privately owned - they are usually corporate cars owned by the company. Always chauffer driven.

It is strange, because new ones (1-4 years old) are readily seen on the roads. These are the corporate cars. Older ones (10+ years old) are often seen. These are privately owned by any sort of person you can imagine. But the in-between ones (6-10 years old) are hardly ever seen. It's like Topyota buys all these up and keeps them off the roads until they're over 10 years old. Must be the exclusivity factor.

Hats off to your friend for getting such a fine automobile. They are hard to come by and fairly expensive. Technological marvels, too.
