Here's a picture of a label I've made for the heater control levers. Can anyone with a 1970 let me know if I'm missing any words in the middle & lower boxes. The existing words on my control panel are hard to read and I can edit the label as required.

These were printed on my computer in MS Word. Before I peel them off the backing I'm going to lightly spray the surface with a matte, polyurethane finish to hopefully keep the letters from smearing if rubbed. These labels are the correct width, they'll need trimmed with a razor and straight-edge to the correct height.

Check out ebay item #290057100569 for a good look at the labels. Or, for $187 you can have a new heater control panel with new labels.

Just as an aside, apparently some of the very early cars may have been different, the 'Off' position on the top slider was not on the left. I can't recall if it was in the middle or on the right, but I have seen pictures of control panels so labeled.

Also, replacement labels were available from Nissan at some point. The part numbers are: 68841-E4600, Label - Air Control; 68843-E4600, Label - Temp Control; and 68845-E4600, Label - Def Control. I tried to order a set a couple months ago, was told the numbers were good, but the parts weren't available.

Lastly, note that the original labels has/had chrome-like silver lettering, which would be very hard to duplicate on a printer. I thought about trying to make some using a Brother laminated label maker, which would also have been white lettering on black.

I did the same thing sort of, but I created bitmaps of silver on black, then printed them on clear self stick adhesive labels, and cut them to size.

The file attached is what I ended up using.

I am sure someone can improve on these with a little effort.

Walter, I like how your labels turned out. I was going to use clear, vinyl labels but I couldn't find any the right size. Same goes for the the silver.

Dan, the control panel I have is in excellent shape except for these labels although that new one looks mighty nice. If I wasn't into this car for as much as I am, I might go for it.

Arne, I also tried at the Dealer and got the same "not available" response. I realize I'm sacrificing originality by not having silver, foil labels. I also considered having a local graphics house make some up but I'm drawing the line on some of these smaller issues with my restoration, (meaning costs).

JLPurcell (Jerry), one of our members here has replacement labels for the heater console. Here are before & after pictures of the old and new labels.

These labels are vinyl and have the silver lettering just the way they're supposed to. Anyones labels that have seen better days might want to contact Jerry about buying a set.

As another aside. Is it probable that Nissan released the HLS30 with the standard HS30 heater control panel? This panel has the off position to the right as this is where the driver is. Is it probable that Nissan moved the off position to the left on HLS30's after US market feedback got back to Nissan Japan.

Bit of a shame really as HS30 versions of the panel are now very very expense to get as NOS where your HLS30 ones are about half the price.

I had sets of the HS30 Labels made up also. I was not aware of the early HLS30 having the HS30 panel. jlp
