October 29, 201014 yr Author comment_334597 ........Unfortunately, Speedway auto and Sidewinder are both gone. The old man with the cool sideburns that ran Speedway got sick last year and eventually died of lung cancer. They were trying to figure out what to do with the cars and things are still in limbo, from what I understand, but it is not open to the public as of right now.I heard from one of the employees at Sidewinder, about a year and a half ago that the railroad was looking to expand and the city was forcing them out. There is a really nice Z yard up in Estes Park. My brother and I went to school with the owner's daughter. He sells everything from parts to complete cars. There is another boneyard up by Speedway called Elliot's Auto that I would always hit up when I went out to Speedway. They are still around and they informed me about Speedway, last summer. I'll miss going through that place if they don't reopen. I was saddened to hear about Bill Renoad's passing after I read Dave Bond's posting back in June. He was the long time manager of Speedway Auto Wrecking and he was always very fair with me on the parts pricing. I bought a few parts off the blue 280Z with the white stripes shown in Post #6 of this thread (Speedway is also the same place with the pics of the '72 that was eventually crushed on Post #1 ). I went by Speedway today after an appointment I had in Greeley and it was all closed up. I also went to the yard to the west of Speedway -Erie Auto Salvage and bought a set of tail light harnesses out of the green '71 there (I've been looking for a good set for quite a while now). I spoke with the owner Ken Miller and asked him about Speedway and he said that the owner, Mr. Cochran sometimes opens it up on Saturdays, but the yard is still in limbo as Dave Bonds mentioned. Here are a few pics I took with my camera phone today of the green '71 while I was out at Erie Auto Salvage today before the tail light harnesses were pulled: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22539-junkyard-out-to-pasture-zs/?&page=15#findComment-334597 Share on other sites

October 29, 201014 yr comment_334649 I get e-mails from the ZCCA site through my role as assistant director. I got this and passed it on to a number of people and then this thread came up.... I wrote back and suggested they post in the classifieds here but then, like I said, this thread came up...My father has a 1970 Datsun 240z that is basically rotting away in his driveway. He always talked about restoring it, but I think it is beyond repair at this point, and now he seems to hope that someone might buy it for parts?! March 20, 201114 yr comment_349976 I found two 240z, one built 1/71, and the other was a '73. Two 280z coupe, and a 2+2. FWIW, I put their respective vin numbers on the picture file name. Ecology Auto Parts Fontana (Cherry) I wonder if the turbine wheels on the blue 280 are worth saving? They were all there. Also on the '73 there was the gas expansion tank still bolted on... I am definitely going back tomorrow for the bucket headlight on the 280 with the turbine wheels. I placed it on the 280 to make it look good for probably its last picture taken. March 20, 201114 yr comment_350004 All these pictures brings tears to my eyes, to think of all those nice hatch doors being crushed when one can be used on my running Z really saddens me. I am in a bind since I can not find any Z's in the scrap yards up here in Toronto Canada. :hurt: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22539-junkyard-out-to-pasture-zs/?&page=15#findComment-350004 Share on other sites

Someone should try to buy the shell and restore the car. March 21, 201114 yr comment_350124 The unibody shell on the 1/71 240Z looks pretty solid. My understanding is that 1/71 cars are Series I 240Zs. Someone should try to buy the shell and restore the car. That shell was picked dry, but it looked complete and straight, the battery tray was clean. However some dingo seemed to cut out the rear end as to remove the tail lights in one piece? So I felt  when I saw that. Pick-A-Part Ontario (Milliken) and Ecology Auto Parts (Rialto) I found some more Z's at other yards today at two other yards. Most had been picked through (The 2+2 was all gone, minus the shell of course) except for the last 2 280Zs, that had only been there since the 15th and many good parts were still in there. The blue 280z had some nice wheels. Why would anyone repaint the Lime colored Z's and why are they in the yard? Like before, I put the the car's vin in the picture's file name.
