This is a new experience for an old 240Z owner. I owned my first 240Z from August 1971, when purchased new, but sold in 1976. I have owned the current 240Z since November, 2003. It is a 1973 purchased new from Nissan in Japan in August 1973 by an Australian working in Japan. It was shipped to Australia in 1974 and owned by that person until 2003. The material that the original owner had included the original Estimate, Purchase Order, Sales Note and Receipts from the Nissan Motor Co., in Tokyo. Every conceivable document since then has been retained.

The 1973 240Z is a blue Fairlady, in very original condition. It has the original windscreen, with factory "stamps" on side windows - as they would have been when delivered.

I tried to attach photos of the two Z cars, but not successful.

Maddos, the colour code for the Blue 240Z is "Blue Metallic #115". The paint is not totally original, as the owner had a slight incident in 1996 (all recorded - 4:45PM June 20!!). However, it is very good. There is no rust anywhere in the car as it has spent most of it's life in inland Australia.

Zedevan, you picked it right for the mirrors on the 1971 car! Two things I did not like back then - the mirrors and the tyres. Both went! I replaced the mirrors with side marker/blinker lights to cover the holes - no change to the body or paintwork. The mirrors are not much fun to use, but of course that is how they were then, so they will stay on the blue Z.

and welcome! Funny thing those mirrors and their position. Before I took possession of the Skyline I swore they were going to be the first thing to go...but after driving the car from the previous owner in Melbourne to Sydney I discovered how well they worked. Both viewable through the screen and both being convex the images weren't hard to see at all. I'm used to the look of them now, they've actually grown on me. An important piece of the whole "look" of genuine Japanese market I s'pose!

Great looking Zed, definately a fine example of a late production HS30 Congratulations on your efforts at record keeping.

Do you have the factory tinted "blue" Glass, what other factory options do you have at a guess ? maybe blue interior with woodgrain inserts.

How far out west are you I am in Newcastle and regularly travel up into South QLD Via WARRICK.

I find the picture which Jack posted earlier in this thread of his original 1971 240-Z very interesting in relation to my posting thread some time ago now regarding the fitment of external rear view mirrors to the 'Australian' market 240-Z cars (note the quotes around Australian).

This one seems to have some kind of 'mirror delete' grommets fitted to the front fenders or wings. I am hoping that Jack has some time to post some information in regards to these.

I also live the white walls on this car.

Thanks for posting this pic Jack and if you have some time I would like to hear more in regards to the mirror deletes.

however i dont see a normal mirror fitted to the car??? did you just drive around without them? please tell me you have the orginal mirrors in a box and are willing to sell them to me?!

Hullo Joseph (240 in OZ). The original 240Z I owned was Model: HS30U; Chassis HS30-00741; Engine No.: L24031211. It was delivered to me on August 12, 1971. Colour was "918" orange. The original brochure that I received when ordering the car had NO fender mounted mirrors, but certainly the car was delivered with them. I did keep the mirrors and other parts and documents for many years, but seemed to have lost them with a house move in 1995. Needless to say I have been a "bit" annoyed about that!!

I drove that car without external mirrors until sold in July, 1976. I did not have any problems, but it is very different to our current cars with reversing camers, tilting mirrors for reverse, demisting, dimming, etc etc!!

Unfortunately that car has no doubt long gone. I was able to obtain the original Registration plates though - BBQ-240. That plate was fitted when I went to pick it up frpm the Dealer. He was genuinely surprised that I thought that was a terrific coincidence!

For the Aussie viewers, you may be surprised to Know I paid $4,730.75 including Registration for the 240Z in 1971.
