Posted December 10, 200618 yr comment_192128 I'm not exactly sure what it's called what I'm missing here on the fuel injection, but if you look and compare in the two photos there is a part that mounts on the fuel injection which is not mounted on mine being the top photo. Is this related to emissions? This part has never been on it and assume the previous owners took it off for one reason of the other. We have a fuel injection book for the these engines but we seemed to have missed placed it and now I can't find it so I was wondering if you guys could help me understand what is missing on it. Thanks. If you guys would like, I can take a better picture tomarrow of it, it's getting dark here so the quality is pretty bad and might be hard to see what I'm talking about. Sorry about the small picture, I couldn't seem to find a good picture that shows what I'm talking about. It's the round "metal thing" that is on the end of the fuel injection. December 10, 200618 yr comment_192134 EGR stuff. Yes, it's emissions-related. Does your car have a header on it? That's a common reason for removal of the EGR. December 10, 200618 yr Author comment_192136 Nope, it doesn't have a header. Would this be a part worth finding/buying and putting back on, or should we not bother? December 10, 200618 yr comment_192138 If you're not required to smog the car where you live, I'd not worry about it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22572-what-exactly-am-i-missing-here/#findComment-192138 Share on other sites

December 10, 200618 yr comment_192161 Austen,Hooking up all the emissions related equipment might put less polution into the air. That benefits all of us! Not only that, you'll be one step closer to claiming your Z is bone stock, OE.Good luck with your car.Bruce Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22572-what-exactly-am-i-missing-here/#findComment-192161 Share on other sites
December 10, 200618 yr comment_192162 Based on the diagrams in my Clymers manual, the smaller pic appears to be a later model than your own. It looks like it's a 77 or 78, and there were some small changes between 75-76, 77 & 78. It's hard to tell for sure due to the quality of the top pic, but it appears that you are missing both the EGR solenoid valve, the EGR control valve, and related piping and vacuum lines. Possibly more. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22572-what-exactly-am-i-missing-here/#findComment-192162 Share on other sites
December 10, 200618 yr Author comment_192168 Ok, I see what you mean, I've done a little research and it looks like the second picture that I posted was off of a 77-78 efi unit which has a mount on the end of the efi for the EGR, which the 75-76 efi units do not have. I still have one question though, from the pictures that I have seen there isn't anything mounted on top of the efi where the two screw holes are? It almost looks like there should be mounted there, but nothing is in any of the pictures that I've seen atleaste. 1977, 1978 efi unit with mount on the end for the EGR 1975, 1976 efi unit without the extended mount on the end, but what are those two srew wholes for on the end on the far right for? But then why on this 75' on Ebay does it have what I think the 77-78 style efi unit on it, only reason I can think of is that it was swapped over. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1975-Datsun-280Z-LITTLE-GREEN-MONSTER_W0QQitemZ320058497249QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Yes, I am a little confused about this.:stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22572-what-exactly-am-i-missing-here/#findComment-192168 Share on other sites
December 10, 200618 yr comment_192182 The car you pictured is a 75 California car. According to the 76 FSM, only the cars built for sale in California were equipped with the EGR system. That's where it could get confusing. I don't have a 75 FSM but I'm sure what I said also applies to a 75. Now, according to the 77 and 78 FSM's, it would appear that all cars had the EGR system regardless of where they were sold. December 11, 200618 yr comment_192274 I can't explain why some have it and some don't, but those screw holes are for the mouting bracket for the EGR solenoid valve.
