240z oil and gas

Hey folks,

I would just like to know what some of you are using on your 240 for oil and filter, and what kind of gas you are using, 87,89,93 octane.

I am not asking what is the "best" I just want to know from you all that have owned 240's for awhile what your using. I have no clue what I'm going to use yet as my car has only been here 1 week, so any feedback would be appreaciated.

On my first 240Z I used Valvoline oil exclusively - Filters were generally Datsun, but also used Fram. In my current 240Z I have switched it over to Amsoil synthetic, with an Amsoil filter. As far as fuel, I am using regular and have no pinging. I am at 5,000+ feet in elevation. We will see what happens in trips to lower elevations.

Randy - I run 20w50 dino oil (usually Castrol GTX) and 91 octane gas in my Zeds...94 octane on track days..

In my 280z, we've been running Castrol GTX and I always put 89 in and the occastional 93.

10W-30 Valvoline since new. I used Fram oil filters for 30 years, now its Purolator.

Gas for my 71 is 93 octane only with 9.0 to 1 compression (probably a little higher now with 35 years of combustion deposits).

it's the high-capacity version of the Fram PHA8 filter which fits L-series blocks - Costs 9-12 bucks. It's constructed much differently than their standard Extra Gaurd 4 buck filter.

For my 280 I use Amsoil for both the filter and oil. Oh and for gas I like 93oct. but I will use 85/87 with no problems.

unless your engine is coked up with carbon, you can run the lower octane fuel.

the 73 was designed to run on the lower octane unleaded.

i want to say the 71 and up are all designed to run on the lower octane unleaded.

now, i like the castrol 20/50.

though with the newer oils for older engines i am looking into that.

lot's of talk and articles in hot rod, popular hot rodding, ect. about how the newer oils have less zinc and such, thus less protection for lifters and bearings in the older engines.

they are recommending royal purple or using oils with a diesel rating. have more protectants.

Any engine oil with an API C1-4 rating has ZDDP[zinc] for use in pre-catalytic converters and flat tappit cams. I'm using Shell rotella t 15-40 in my mopar and my Z
