Posted December 16, 200618 yr comment_192833 It looks like the battery in my 70Z is shot. It wont hold a charge. Can anyone recommend which make and model of new battery looks most like the original battery in a 70/71 Z in physical appearance/color, and in physical dimension (the battery currently in my car is too small to bit the battery hold down hardware properly).Thanks.... December 16, 200618 yr comment_192837 I have a maintenance free battery in my car that measures 8 ½ “(H) x 6 ½†(W) x 10†(L). It fits in the frame just right. As for trying to locate the most authentic looking battery, all the ones I’ve seen that are vintage looking reproductions have ‘DELCO’ or ‘FOMOCO’ written on the side. A suggestion is to use a modern battery with the proper dimensions and cover it with the old Nissan OEM plastic battery cover of that era. December 16, 200618 yr comment_192851 Didn't the 1970 model batteries have the battery caps on it? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22646-which-new-battery-most-resembles-original/#findComment-192851 Share on other sites
December 16, 200618 yr Author comment_192857 I went with an Interstate because it is white. I believe the originals had a white 'body'. With the battery brackets it looks pretty tight. Now if I could just pass emmissions......... December 17, 200618 yr comment_192874 I went looking for a battery for my 280 and it seems that around here all you can find at Checker,Autozone, Advance Auto and Car Quest is something with their name on it and to me they look cheep. Yes some have a Exide that looks like a Optima but costs 159.00 and some did have a Red top Optima at the same price which has gone up since the last time I bought one. I did not see a Interstate anywhere.I stopped at Four Wheel Parts and bought a Red Top Optima for 109.00 they are on sale this is not the big one but this has 700CCA Just about right for a Z car. I'll see how the mount fits tomarrow. For a Battery that looks like OEM of the time look in Hemmings Motor news I know there are companys that make covers that look like OEM stuff.
