Air Dam questions

Recommended Posts

I was checking out JC Whitney online and found that they have an air dam for 240s. Does anyone have any experience with these dams (that will admit it)? I like the idea of a fiber glass air dam with a rubber skirt.

On another note I was as Shasta this weekend and someone told me that the urethane dams distort while driving :ermm: . Any comments on this?

Hi Owen,

I have a urethane airdam and it is not ridgid and I would not be surprised to find out it distorts a little at speed. However, I am sure I could drill some holes at the bottom and add some supports to avoid this. A friend has a fiberglass airdam on his Z and is having a hard time repairing cracks. I would probably be on my third airdam if mine where fiberglass.

Sorry, don't know anything specifically about the JC Whitney Z airdam.

Have fun!

You are correct about the urethane dams in that they will deflect at speed. Royce's suggestion is right on. You can fashion a brace out of aluminum that lays at the bottom and fasten it from below with some rivets. This will keep the lip sturdy enough so it won't bend at speed but still let it flex when you hit the parking spot bumpers or speed bumps.

So questions

1. How long have you had it and are you very carefull when you drive or just aware of road hazards?

2. Where did you get it?

3. What is the clearance?

Again Great shot, I hope mine will look this good one day!

I have a fiberglass air dam from MSA which i installed my self, if you like owenk you can read my review on it on this site. As far as taking care when driving, no i can't say that i do in respect to the air dam. I don't know about urethane but fiberglass is a very easy material to work with. Even a big crack would be easy to fix, some fiberglass mat, resin, and little sanding and you wouldn't notice the damage. Of course if you nock of a big chunk your probably done. Then again fiberglass is cheap, saying that though i think urethane with probably take more abuse in that it will give and not crack.

Well, the pic was taken by one of my friend! I like this shot.

As for the airdam, well, the road sucks so much in Quebec, that, YES, I do take care when I drive, as well as if other people in their cars were a threat for me!!!!

It was already on the car when I bought it, but it's from MSA, and was installed in a body shop I guess. It was easy to fix (for my carpet incident), and since my car is really low, I do have to pay attention also to the front and underneath, since my exhaust rubs sometimes...

Just to have get used to it for the look it gives, it's ok for me!

Good luck with yours!:classic: :geek:
