Honk if you drive a Z, or Where's the love?

yes i wave and give em a thumbs up...except to zx's. I find that most ZX owners have no love for the car...i.e...its all beat up and mechanically unsound. Theres only 1 240 around town here. In fact, a few weeks ago when i was going to the gas station...they guy saw me and followed my there. We talked for quite a bit bout the Z's, it was great! Most 300zx (90-96) owners have some sort of broomstick up their arse or something.

Grantman, that's exactly what prompted this thread. I was cruising in the slow lane on the way back from the beach this weekend and saw a sliver 300ZXtt quickly approaching, so as he passed I honked and waved and he never even look at me. :(

I came across one in Georgia and he flashed his lights but I did not react in time to flash back so he probably thought I was a jerk.

Another guy had a z close to where I worked and we would honk at each other every time we passed and it started to become comical as we would pass almost 3 or 4 times a week.

So far I have waived at 3 that I know of and they all waived back even though my Z was primered and looked like hell. I guess Southerners just have better manners:)

Well I'm a young one and I *always* wave or put my thumb up to a passing Z (never a ZX)... I've always received some acknowledgement...

Flashing lights I wouldn't do, as (a) it's tricky to do when a car just flashes by and (B) over here at least flashing lights means "watch out, I just passed a copper!"

I see so many Z's here sometimes I keep track in my Daytimer just for fun...Many days I will see 10-12 Z's in the course of driving around all day (work). If there is any acknowledgement from another Z driver, usually we just point at each other, but occasionally it degenerates into a wave, peace sign, or thumbs-up. It is nearly scientific who will respond:

1st Gen: Male driver: I get noticed 99.9% of the time--and get a response.....female driver: I get noticed maybe 25% of the time.

2nd Gen: There are a TON of rusted out beaters and nasty 2+2's around here--but some clean ones too. About 1 driver in 20 will notice me, and it has to be a near head-on confrontation--like a left turn lane or something.

Z31: 0% response. Every time. Without fail. End of story. Never even notice. Oblivious to another Z. Make eye contact with them and they have this vacant look on their face, like, "Am I to know you?". You would think they could do the math: Let's see, I'm driving a fabulously appointed, powerful, one-of-a-kind Japanese sports car which is no longer made that I bought new and have washed lovingly every weekend and there's this guy in a beautiful shiny dark green older Z with giant white racing stripes and a distinctive exhaust note in the lane next to me and he's smiling and waving at me.....hmmm, he doesn't look familiar. "Do you know him, Honey?" I just don't get it. Around here 99.9999% of Z31 drivers are men in their 60's. I guess the Z was their mid-life-crisis.

Z32: you really have to divide into at least three groups. Lots of women drivers: 0 response; Men 40-60: 1% response; Kids (male) 16-40: At least a 50% response--the younger the better. These kids--alot of them 'Ricers'--LOVE the "old school".

350Z: This will be the most interesting chapter of my reasearch.

Thats kinda funny since I do the same thing to them. If they drive a 280zx or 300zx to me that is not a Z car.

I am not real high on the new one either . I think Nissan could learn something from Volkswagen when they made the new bug. Keep the basic old Z body style.

While I realize it is blasphemy to say or imply here; I really don't have a problem with the 280ZX.

Don't get me wrong, I love the classic 1st generation Z the best. But a 280ZX would make a nice 350" conversion.

But on topic, I never waive or honk at anything other than a 1st generation Z.
