i honk at Z's but never a ZX....its aint a Z, its a ZX (no offense to any ZX owners in here :finger:) . however...i had a guy in a 350z roll down his window at the stoplight and started talking to me bout my Z. theres gonna be 2 kinds of drivers for the new 350z....those that buy it as a "classic reborn" and are an avid Z fan....or the pricks who buy its because its fast, you can already tell just by looks of the car.

I find that most ZX owners have no love for the car
Most 300zx (90-96) owners have some sort of broomstick up their arse or something.

We may need to add the 350Z drivers to this disrespectful attitude. Friday I was at a stop sign in my Z when I look up and a black 350 is turning right next to me. I gave a wave and the a**hole glanced over real quick and looked away and just kept driving. I thought I was in a posh (piece of sh*t) bug or something. Pissed me off. Later I was passed by an oncoming vette, late 60's, gave a wave and got one back.

My impression of this 350z driver was that he thought he was the next greatest thing since sliced bread. I hope this isn't the trend but my gut tells me the new owners wouldn't know the old classic Z if it hit them. If anyone else has an encounter with a new Z let us know.

Half of them dont even know a Z if they see one. This ford probe was playing around with me today so I took off and he tried his best but lost. He pulls up next to me down the road with these three young girls in his car (cute too) :classic: and asks what type of car is that? I said Z and he replied I never heard of that. I just grinned.

These kids today I tell yah. I must be getting old.

What's wrong with zx's? I fell in love with them on sight when I was 9 or so. Seriously, I am pretty naive about the differences. Is it zedist idealism or mechanical inferiority? I was so far out of the loop I had no idea my Z.....x was a redheaded step-child.

Enlighten me please!

As for zx love, I've gone beyond "till death do us part." Blew a seal @ high rpms and destroyed engine so badly that my mechanic just wished me luck in replacing the car. So I wished him luck in rebuilding it. It cost more than the car did. But that's love for you.

I'll trade some enlightenment for something I do know about, as a lady in a Z. Both eyes on the road.....and I need at least one hand on the wheel. Unless you were referring to female Z passengers. But in that case they're just highbeams, not Z highbeams. I guess in some cases it doesn't matter. A nice enough set of lights should make even a zx worth checking out. Yes?:bunny: :

Honking doesn't work, can't hear it for the exhaust unless you're a p**** with a no-guts engine !

My last Z, with a flame popping un-environmental free-flow exhaust served as a horn for a year to warn other (dip the clutch and rev) until I realised it was bust !

Flashing those beauties is the way to go, the lights look so great reflecting in the scoops I sometimes drove with them on all day !

But what's my girlfriend gonna ask me to flash when I see another Z ? How do you keep the wheel straight "look no hands" !

Anyway, over here most times a car flashes you, it's a sign that there are cops ahead and there are laws for public indecency.

If you scroll back a bit, I wrote in this thread, "...350Z: This will be the most interesting chapter of my reasearch...." in April 2002.

Well, It is now December, and so far, my experience with 350 drivers has been very favorable. So far 100% have given me a POSITIVE affirmation of my existence while in my Z. I think with the retro ad campaign and all, they are more aware than 3rd and 4th gen's put together. Hope it doesn't change...

The general theme here I can see is thatit doesn't matter what car you drive, Z, ZX, whatever generation, Corvette or another classic car. It's the mentality behind that older car, kept on the road, glossy or in primer because those drivers love thier cars first and the looks come second.

When I got my first 240Z (jeez, I sound old when I say 1st), everyone said I bought it for a p**** magnet. I siad I couldn't give two f*rts for that - I bought it strictly for my pleasure and if that means driving around on my own - so be it !

Classic car owners are different and Z owners take that a step further.

Hope you guys and girls are lucky enough to find the 350Z owners who haven't bought one 'cos it's the latest trend. It does mean that their will be more of them about later to pick up cheaper in ten years though !

While at a recent NASA event at Sears point i ran into a guy who had a new 350... Nicest guy in the world. He saw my Z and called me over to talk. This was his 4th Z and he said he loved it (not as much as the 1st gen he said). He showed me around his car (Pretty sweet by the way, I did not like them much initially) and then he pulled out pictures from his wallet of all his cars, Not his kids, his car's, it cracked me up). He was a true enthusiust, He had, over the years five or six different cars for racing. He was very, very nice and humble even though i knew he had lot's of money, he came across as a true Z man from way back.

One thing he did say about the new Z was on the track it felt like a tank compared to his old Z's (weight wise), although he said it handled like a dream and he regularly blows away Vipers in it.

Very pleasant man and a true Z man at heart.

Nothing, If some bash the ZX, They do it for own reasons. I have an affinity for car enthusiasts. We speak the same language. When someone loves their Z car, It's a classic Z to me. At work, I have a co-worker with an 83 turbo. I enjoy helping him with a few mechanical problems and seeing his enthusiasm for making it just right. while driving, I get the "thumbs up" from HS130 ZX's and they get it back from me.

The main preference for the early Z is that it was a true sports car - no frills, no power anything, light, elegantly simple, GT coupe. by 73, US safety requirements added more weight for bumpers and to meet the increasingly stringent air laws, power robbing carburetors were added. This got worse with the 260Z (US models, The Euro were great). The 280Z got more gadgets and even more weight. The first ZX's were more a luxury tourer than a sports car. By adding your Turbo, they made it a go machine again.

If you love your Z or ZX, show the love and you'll get it back from the other Z car nut cases out there.

By the way... If you spell check "ZX", Microsoft gives a nice suggestion:classic:

Hmmmmm, yair, right, so I should be flashing the lights, honking the horn and waving to other Zeds.

I tried it today and it WORKED EVERY TIME. The other bloke waved back.

It did feel a bit weird though, parked nose on to a shop front window flashing the lights, honking the horn and waving to my reflection in the window.

There aint any other Zeds in my part of the world that I know of.

Got a few funny looks.

Yes, it seems like many zx drivers are not enthusiasts, and just use their cars for transport, not entertainment. I always wave or give thumbs up to other z drivers, even if they aren't looking, hehe. just a little while ago I waved at a really fast 280z while i was driving my car to the shop to get her fixed!! hehe.
