January 9, 200718 yr comment_195255 a friend once told me that Maxima's spark plugs do better on L28, I'll try them, nothing theoretical, it is just from his experience.. besides, they cost the same.. I'll try and I'll give a feedback if it is true! January 9, 200718 yr comment_195257 Which Maxima? The L24E powered Maxima (80-84) as well as the 810 (77-80) use the same spark plug as the L28E powered 280Z and 280ZX. At least here in the US. January 9, 200718 yr comment_195269 B6ES-11 is the correct NGK for the EFI cars. The Nissan part number is 22401-P8816. Thanks for answering that bro Stupid me I should have included that in my response :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22850-78-280z-idling-and-warm-starting-problems/?&page=2#findComment-195269 Share on other sites
January 10, 200718 yr Author comment_195274 Thanks to everyone for your input. If I can't figure it out now, I better sell all of my tools, and build a glass garage around my Z and just look at it(yeah , rightLOL). As soon as I get a decent day above 30 degrees, I'll try some of these things out and let you know what I find. Thanks again. January 10, 200718 yr comment_195275 Stephen, the Maxima I mentioned was the 1994-1999 sold in our region which had the VQ30 engine if I'm not mistakin' the spark plugs shoud fit into the head of the L28 and tightened with a smaller wrench.. I don't recommend to use those plugs here but I was told that they have better spark than the ones of the original L28.and I'm having an ACCEL super coil so maybe using those plugs might be better..that guy told me that from his practical experience, no theories nor calculations.. I must try to make sure.. if it will make a difference, I'll certainly inform you about the part number and the effect. March 26, 200718 yr Author comment_203721 We finally got some decent weather, so I bought new ngk plugs,(for both of my z's) put them in, cleaned all of the connections you guys mentioned, found that the wiring was a little mixed up for the temperature switch, and the ballast resistor by the coil wasn't grounded(helps to have another z to compare with). I took it for a ride, and it runs really good. Only a slight stumble when you first give it gas. The only thing that isn't working is the boost decelerator. I'll have to look a little closer at the wiring I guess. Atleast I made it home this time. Thanks for everyone's advice. Hope this helps someone else, since this seems like a common problem with the 280z.
