Posted January 15, 200718 yr comment_195615 Trying to locate some 20 or 30 over pistons. My mechanic says MSA only has two nissan pistons 20 over, anybody know where to get some more? Are factory pistons the way to go or is there a better piston? Or something equally as good.He tells me my cylinders are egged shapped. I gotta trust him, but how a motor with only 25k miles can cause cylinder walls to deform is beyond me.Thanks guys Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22942-need-some-oversized-pistons/ Share on other sites
January 16, 200718 yr comment_195619 Yeah, you can get some from www.blackdragonauto.com. They have most sizes. Just make sure you order the correct ones (dished or not dished). January 16, 200718 yr comment_195630 I just bought a set from Danny's Datsuns. His only set, but unfortunately, they are for a 240z and not a 280z, so I could sell them to you for $125 shipped. They are used and .5mm overbore. I need to have them dismounted from the rods first, as I'm probably going to use the rods with AZcar forged pistons now though. January 16, 200718 yr comment_195662 I gotta trust him, but how a motor with only 25k miles can cause cylinder walls to deform is beyond me.Thanks guysDo you mean that the engine was rebuilt by someone else - 25K miles ago? - if so, who knows how many total miles the block has on it ?You might trust your mechanic - but you don't have to trust the instruments he's using to take the measurements.... If he has sent it out to a machine shop for block work - you might want to stop by and ask to see what they are talking about - "egg shaped cylinders"??? That would be pretty unusual....just a thought,Carl B. January 16, 200718 yr Author comment_195727 Thanks for all the leads guys. I am trying to get new Nissan pistons. Carl, the engine has 25,000 original miles, as does the car. No. 5 cylinder was 40% lower on the compression check, so that is the cylinder with the problem. I've given Blackdragon an email and they are checking on availability and price. January 17, 200718 yr Author comment_195897 Good news, Nissan had the pistons and rings. They'll be in on Friday. The motor will then be put together again and I will be able to hear her purr for the first time. I'm told three weeks out.Head has been rebuilt as well, stainless sleeves were installed. It is now back from the machinist. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22942-need-some-oversized-pistons/#findComment-195897 Share on other sites
