red_dog007 Posted January 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2007 Well, before I do any performance parts, or get into the interior which is all gutted out, how much would a good paint job be?The paint that is on there now is a crap job and needs to be sanded off. There are a few rust spots that need some work too before the paint goes on. Plus I am thinking of pulling the motor and getting the engine bay all painted pretty. How much has it cost you guys to get a nice paint job on your Z cars? I am also thinking of racing strips, so would that cost extra? Also, I want to protect the under body and was wondering if there is some kind of sealer that can be spray on and how much that might cost.I need to figure out how much this is going to cost me so I can start saving and find someone out there in Cali who is a reliable and good painter. mally002 Posted January 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2007 I'm having three small rust areas cut out and put back with metal, sanding the car, and complete paint job minus the engine bay. Price is $4,100.00 That also includes removing all glass. I got estimates from a low of $3,000 to a high of $12,000. Original color, not a paint change.Good Luck..... Duffman Posted January 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2007 I had Spanky's in Mesa, AZ, do mine for about $5,000. Took everything off, including glass, did some welding, etc. A very good job for the money.

280z1975 Posted January 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2007 Base price if you do all the work yourself and use a good paint is 800 dollars. That is for all the paint, primer, tape, etc. plus the cost to replace the glass. My friend is an estimator at a body shop and thier cost (which is discounted) in materials alone was just under 600. you can use cheaper paint or a cheaper body shop. If you need to do this on the cheap use a service like Maaco, but don't expect a 100% professional job.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21667&highlight=MaacoThis is a great thread on the subject. I would PM jackboxxx as he is an owner of Maaco and a can help you find a Maaco that is a good shop. You could also try to paint it yourself. If you do rent a booth. It's cheaper and the results can vary. Remember, if do it professionally you are paying someone 50 an hour just to sand your car and add body filler (thing you can learn on your own and do easily). brushie1320022 Posted January 19, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2007 If you did alot of the PREP work before you take it to get painted you would save some cash..
CANDYBLUE2+2 Posted February 2, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2007 Without knowing very much about your particular specs and requirements, I can honestly say that I've done some for as little as $1500 and as high as $12000. Thats a relatively easy job on up to a heavy rust bucket with lots of welding, etc... Good Luck and start saving those pennies.
