How much does a head cost for a 240 Z and where can I get one.

Anywhere from $10 to $2,000 depending on type and condition. What type of head are you looking for (E31, E88, N42, P79, P90, P90a,...)?

I have a E31 head which needs a little attention due the fact it sat for 5 years at the ranch. Should I buy a rebuilt or fix the one I have for $375.

E31 heads are probably the most valuable, particularly for racers. $375 is a reasonable price to get a valve job, new seals, etc. Try to avoid having the head shaved if at all possible.

Hi Nick,welcome from another newbie,have a look at the base of the head where it meets the block just back from no.1 spark plug, you will see cast into the head a letter and 2 numbers,i.e. E31,E88,N42,N47,etc,etc.This tells you what type of head you have,you can also get a rough idea of how much has been shaved off the head by how close the bottom of the numbers are to the base of the head,not an exact measurement but something to check if you ever buy a 2nd hand head.Look for other posts for info on your head when you find the numbers.Hope this helps,Craig.

I have a E88 head I just had rebuilt at Motorsports in LA @$450 the rest of the project fell through and I sold the body only so I have lots of running gear if interested email at LMLERMA@msn.com
