Posted January 24, 200718 yr comment_196748 Since I have found out that MSA no longer carries their own non progressive springs, Im looking for feedback from the folks here who have ST or arizona springs on their cars. I am thinking of getting Tockico HP's and I want some feedback on what folks like, or don't like about those springs. I had heard some concerns with folks about the unpredicable handling with progressives like the tockico's or eibachs. I dont mind a stiff ride, but hopefully not buckboard stiff. This is for my 71, which is NOT a daily driver.Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23061-who-is-running-suspension-techniquesarizona-z-car-springs/ Share on other sites
January 24, 200718 yr comment_196757 The Tokico's are not fully progressive; the fronts are progressive and the rears are linear. I do not know where you read about 'unpredictable' handling related to progressive springs. The handling is predictable, it is just different than a linear spring. The springs require more body roll in order to develop their resistance compared to a linear spring. Once you get used to that point at which they stiffen up, you can drive them with as much confidence as a linear spring equipped car.I love the Tokico spring and HP blue setup. I owned a 350z, Audi S4 with an complete iNtrax setup and an FX35. I would say that my 240z with the Tokico setup is very similar in ride quality to my old 350z. Rather firm, but not 'buckboard stiff'. January 24, 200718 yr comment_196764 Personally, I'd be much more concerned if the rears were progressive, especially if the fronts were linear. For street driving, I doubt that progressive fronts would be a horrible deal. January 25, 200718 yr Author comment_196789 So Arne, what do you plan to do with your two cars, leave the stock setups in?My 71 has some older performance springs,ST's maybe or Interpart, I'm not sure how long they've been in there, but I want to swap out springs and shocks together. maybe the Tockicos would be OK, but there was some discussion earlier from folks who felt non progressives were the way to go for predictable handling. January 25, 200718 yr comment_196799 So Arne, what do you plan to do with your two cars, leave the stock setups in?The yellow car will be sold soon, so it will keep its stock suspension. On the red car, I don't want to lower it, but still prefer something a bit tighter than stock. So it will soon get a set of repro Nissan Euro Stage 1 springs matched up with a full set of NOS Mulholland (Interpart) strut inserts. I figure this should give a good street compromise. January 25, 200718 yr comment_196851 Courtesy Nissan sells repro Euro springs, which are what I have. The Mulhollands can be found now and then. I believe there are a set on eBay now. January 25, 200718 yr comment_196889 I have Tokico adjustables with AZ car springs, and I love it. It can be set firm or soft and it handles great with urethane bushings, and stock sway bars.
