Original Keys pictures

Here's an alternative to the 'no-class' locksmith blank. I know these aren't the original type, and I'm not sure if they work on a 240Z, but these are what I use as spares on my 280Z (KEY00-00056) and my 810 (KEY00-00055). They're both still available through Nissan.

I went to a dealership and had some keys made to the key number, and all I got were Curtis DA-21 blanks cut.

I will try to post this again with a picture of my key.
Ah, Series 1 keys. I have a pair of those for my yellow car. I suspect the ignition lock, tumblers and keys for the Series 1 are far more durable than the later two-sided keys, as my ignition key is also original and not worn. The ignition lock in my yellow car doesn't let the key come out unless it is off, either.

Wow! This is a very enlightening thread. I also looked up the link to the previous key discussion. Pretty cool.

Zbane,

You say that the "N" key you have belongs to a ZX?? I thought the round N key was for the early models only.

Absolutely.

But keep in mind that my ZX is from 4/79. My key works for all my locks-doors, ignition, gas, and hatch.

I thought that I had seen replacements for sale that differentiated between my build year, and the following years, so this could just be a matter of parts being shared from one gen to the next, as seen with 240/260/280 parts.

There were many keys used by Nissan, and they don't necessarily interchange. Mine are a rectangular double cut for the ignition and an oval single cut for everything else. I had two key blanks that Stephen posted and the locksmith wouldn't cut them (thanks!) because they were not going to work. They were a little bit different. I got a blank (new type) from the dealership that looked like it would work, had it cut, and it didn't. The round "N" keys are very difficult to find and expensive. The last ones that showed up on eBay went for a lot of money. I use generics and keep the originals in a safe place.
