Dazza Posted July 18, 2002 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2002 The same car was advertised recently in the Australian "Just Cars" magazine which also ran a two page feature spread on it. I cannot recall all the facts but it seems it is a bit of a rarity as not many were sold/made due to the complexity of the very high tech mechanicals and subsequent high cost. Just the same, the selling price does seem a bit ambitious.:
carguyinok Posted July 18, 2002 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2002 owner retiring. After the car sells. Is it just me? That looks like some one took A Z's roof and put it on A 94 mazda rx7 body.
HS30-H Posted July 18, 2002 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2002 With Japan being not so far away from Australia, it is quite likely that the owner of the car is hoping to sell it back to the Japanese market. With a bit of bargaining the price could probably be down to roughly the going rate in Japan, or even less. If its a good original car with no silly "repairs" then it will be in the ball-park on price with a little haggling.I don't want to hear any of you guys taking the mickey out of this car due to its price. The 2000GT is actually a true thoroughbred, and was virtually hand built - like a Savile Row suit. Having driven more than one in Japan ( and once even in anger round a race circuit ) I can vouch for the fact that the 2000GT really is something special. If I was super rich, I would certainly have one on my "wish list" - amongst many other rarities and acquired-taste cars. So, please don't take the proverbial out of this car or its owner. If you owned it, you would not want it to leave home without getting the market value or more for it - would you? Like I said, these cars were SPECIAL - and there's not many of them changing hands these days. Many are being repatriated. And remember that the Australian Dollar is nicknamed the "South Sea Peso" recently....................Alan T.

halz Posted July 18, 2002 Author Share #8 Posted July 18, 2002 Hey Alan,I'm not taking the p@#$. These cars come up for sale so rarely and their history has such valid links to the 240Z that I thought it would be of general interest to the gang. As I recall, only about 200 were made so any seller can justifiably name his price. I'm interested to hear that you have driven one or two (in anger no less!). Curiously I also had an early 2000GT experience. When I was about 19 or 20 a mate's father owned a large Toyota dealership in Melbourne and had a very impressive collection of classis cars in several garages on his large country property outside Melbourne. After gawking and drooling my way through these, we finished up in the garage which was attached to the house. My mate drew back the cover to reveal the long svelte shape of a Toyota 2000GT. I sat in it and was impressed - this was what a true sports car looks and feels like, I thought. Needless to say that since then my standards have been impossibly high (read: unaffordable!) and I have been genuinely unimpresed by friends with new Porsches and the like.Nowadays I give myself a retrospective kick for not savouring the moment even more.. or perhaps having a photo taken with the car. Your comments on the SE Asian Peso are justified. A few GBP will buy a riverfront mansion with requisite 27-car garage in Perth these days. In fact, if I sold my house I'd have very little change after buying that Toyota... and I don't think my wife and daughters would appreciate the cramped new abode either! Zedrally Posted July 19, 2002 Share #9 Posted July 19, 2002 This came from zhome. It's good to compare the original with whats on offer. Wonder what the side panel was for? South Sea's peso, huh, is that retribution for beating the pom's at cricket.
