February 14, 200718 yr comment_199181 While we are on the topic is it possible to buy our connectors new? (Plastic parts) Are they a standard item that anyone is aware of. I just junked a mid-80's Maxima and poked around a bit. It seems there are a few connector types which they share in common but not all.Restating the question... For those of us that desire to reconstruct an origninal appearing harness from scratch is there a place where can we get the plastic connectors new??Buying the wiring/connectors could actually be shared between a few members so as to even out and make the cost worthwhile. (Noone left with 50 feet of unusable color coded wire) I'd love to do this if anyone else is game.Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23246-wiring-harness-preventive-maintenance/?&page=2#findComment-199181 Share on other sites
February 14, 200718 yr comment_199202 I said use emery cloth not sand paper or you can use an abrasive mat(3M makes them). Then blow the part off . And after you clean the wire connectors protect them with a water displacing corrosion preventive compound or a clear lacquer..BTW this is out a corrosion control manual....As for the deoxit, stuff I have not tried it....Once you break the surface of the terminal with any abrasive. The tinning that was plated onto the terminal to protect it from corrosion has been compromised and needs to be replaced and or recoated. I use TF20 Freon or alcohol and a soft nylon brush. I am going to pick up some DEOX it and try that this next week. As my Freon supply is running really short and it has gotten really expensive.PS emery cloth equals sand paper only difference is using a cloth backing Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23246-wiring-harness-preventive-maintenance/?&page=2#findComment-199202 Share on other sites
March 28, 200718 yr comment_203839 I bought some spare connectors from Dave Irwin and some connectors from EagleDay. The ones Dave Irwin can get are much better than the EagleDay parts. Thicker plastic and nearly identical to stock (if not identical). The EagleDay's are useable, but don't look the same and won't mate up with your stock harness. I've successfully used a pick to hold back the metal tab on the spade terminals and transfer spades from an old connector to a new connector, so no need for cutting. You can also bust the old connector to free the spade terminals. When you have the connectors out, its a great time to soak them in tuner cleaner... March 28, 200718 yr comment_203847 These look to be pretty close. Nice price compared with EagleDay.http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/connectors.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23246-wiring-harness-preventive-maintenance/?&page=2#findComment-203847 Share on other sites
March 28, 200718 yr comment_203865 Nice find on the electrical connectors, GreenZZZ !! I'm still trying to find a nice crimper that will let me put those ends on a 10ga wire....Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon. That site also has a pretty sweet electrical toolkit. Quality looks decent too (better than local Autozone crap). http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/tools.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23246-wiring-harness-preventive-maintenance/?&page=2#findComment-203865 Share on other sites
