February 13, 200718 yr comment_199080 Having rare spares means you can trade other fanatics for parts you don't have or sell them to help finance your work on the Z. They do take up the extra room in my garage though. February 13, 200718 yr comment_199081 I can't help but buy bits that my zed could use to improve it. Only problem is I'm too greedy to part with the bits I'm replacing so my collection just keeps growing. Lucky I've just got two 40 foot containers to fill. February 13, 200718 yr comment_199082 If you dont take preventative action, spare parts disease (S.P.D) can get progressively worse. First it starts out as a set of hubcaps you don need - you don't have the steel wheels they fit on in the first place, since your Z has mags. Then it progresses to other bits you dont need, and if not treated at that stage, it degenerates into P.C.D. (parts car disease) and you find you have an un-restorable rusted out car taking up space at your house. The sufferer of PCD is happy in their delusion that they have a whole car full of spare parts, and in their mind they will often think the car is not to far gone to be fixed. They will use the parts car as a storage place for yet more spare parts obtained from ebay, internet forums, and local classifieds. At this stage the sufferer can become interested in other models of car, by the same manufacturer, and may buy a different type of car, say a 280zx, 300zx, or datsun 510, etc. The car will always need work, and the cycle of spare parts collecting will begin again for the new car, at which point the victim is beyond all hope. Quick before its too late, send all your spare parts to me :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23250-spare-parts-disease/?&page=3#findComment-199082 Share on other sites
February 13, 200718 yr comment_199091 I Just finished parting out a 71 last night. The only thing left on it is some paint and rust.I was going to take it to the scrap metal yard today but in the daylight I found a couple of places not rusted thru. I decided to keep it in case I ever need one of those places for another car that might need it.My two biggest hoards are early radios AM and AM/FM plus ashtrays. I have boxes of them. You never know when one might break.Like every one else that is a packrat I have at least 2 of every thing else. The only thing I don't have is an early throttle knob.I have the square one just not the round one. A knob,A knob, MY KINGDOM FOR A KNOB:D Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23250-spare-parts-disease/?&page=3#findComment-199091 Share on other sites

But seriously folks, you can never have too many spare parts, just a shortage of places to stash them.
