Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair

My 12/70 has all the markings of a series 1 including the rear vents on the hatch. It also has the vents on the pillar post.I can't find any where it was repaired and it all looks original.I can't come up with a reason for both so I was going to fill in the vents on the pillar post.I like the 240Z emblems there.Does anyone see a problem with this fix?

I purchased a 71 240z parts car and it is a mishmash of parts. One of the headlight scoops is fiberglass the other metal. It has a series one steering wheel and console but has vents in the pillar and none in the hood. It appears to all be original to the car. It almost seems like during this transition period they had parts lying around and just through them together. The used whatever they had. Carl

Onuthin,

From the research I've done on my 240Z, VIN#17924, it was manufactured in 12/70. My roof badges show no vents behind them but on the rear hatch. I have a different problem, no door post data plate was ever attached. The dash and engine bay match. I have no idea what you may have or what year. Attached are pics that may help.

Pretty close. My VIN is 17309 12/70. If yours is newer than mine and no vents in the pillars it must have been they were useing up leftover parts during model change. The question is still should I fill in the vents on the post or not.I like the emblems on the post but don't know if filling in holes will cause a problem or what else is involved?

I would keep 'em. Especially if you like them. They aren't hurting anything. Besides, if you filled them, it would be a bummer if the hatch area decided not to drain correctly.

you would just have to make sure the drain tube is never clogged.

Ronnie, are both vent systems totally functional?

Hatch - Do you have the louvered interior trim panel? All the vent stuff inside the hatch is good?

Pillars - Do the interior plastic trim panels have holes near the vents, as if there were a speaker up there?
