Diff mount upgrades - R200

Recommended Posts

G'day from down under. I just got another R200 LSD (3.9) which is going in the car next week and wanted to upgrade the standard mount to eliminate the vibration at full throttle. At the moment I have the usual cheapo chain over the diff but figure that I need to go the next step since my chev is pumping 540 hp through the Zed at the moment. Any suggestion on upgrading the moustache bar with a plate or solid mounting the front of the diff? I have read some stuff on this site but was hoping to gather some more info. thanks

hybridz has a few threads on a modification to can make. It uses the bolts that hold the strap in place.

This is only one thread, but there are others.

Give fellow member V8-240Z a shout , he is the guy that also makes the spindle pin puller , that I have to loan. He has one that lets you keep the finned cover also a simple up grade that does away with the old strap over the pumpkin. Gary

Speaking of R 200's does anyone have or know where I could get the finned Diff cover???

I do know that Danny's Datsuns in Sutherlin, OR has a car with the finned R200 cover. I also know he has a car that he believed was a LSD and had the finned cover. Turned out it was an open diff.

I believe all of the 87-89 300ZX turbos came with the finned cover. As Bryan points out it wasn't just the LSDs that had the cover. What I don't know is whether the earlier 84-86 turbos had it as well.

Keep in mind that there is no room for the cover so you'll have to make a new link to connect the rear control arm bushings that is spaced further back to allow clearance for the fins. There are pictures of various solutions to this problem as well on Hybrid Z.

That makes sense Darrel. Looks like I won't be able to put one in anyway since I have a 95 ltr Alloy tank that is about 3" away from the standard diff mount. No airflow past this as well. It all might get a bit tight for my liking anyway. I will stick with the new brace and see what I can do to replace the standard moustache bar. I printed your link off as well to keep the ideas flowing. I will post up the finished product when it is done in a week or two.
