From RX7 to Z

Hey fellas, I hust finished parting out my baby that I've owned since 1996. Rust was the main reason for the death of my 85rx7. The only thing I have left are my 17" CCW wheels. I've always liked the way these cars looked, and I've seen some real nice flared ones with CCW's. I'm thinking of adding some flares and using my wheels. I think we use the same bolt pattern (4 x 114.3) correct? my rear are 17x12 with 4 1/2" back spacing. I might have to send them back to Jon at ccw to reduce the outer lip by a few inches.

I have alot of questions, but since I've been a member of RX7club since 2001, I know to search before I ask. I'll do some reading, and get back to you guys later.

BTW: Her was my baby (RIP. 1985-2007)

I just got done cutting my stock fenders to add 3" flares. With the 3" flare installed and a 5" backspace and coilovers, I can comfortably fit a 10" wide wheel and a 11.5" tire or thereabouts.

With your offset you'd need a wider flare. They do exist, Reaction Research makes a "YZ" kit which will fit 12's, and there are some older kits from the 70's IMSA cars which will fit wheels that wide.

I'd suggest that you narrow the rims to 10" and run the 3" flares which are quite a bit more common. It looks to me like your front rims aren't nearly as wide, which makes the 12's in back hard to balance for handling. Might do well for drag racing if that's your game.

Nice RX7 there. Not much of a fan of the RX7. I have a buddy who has one, and I think that I don't care for them too much atm because of what my buddy is doing and how he is treating his car.

Just curious, why a change of heart? I know that each one of my friends that has a sports car, each have something different that they have been eye balling for 3 + years before they got it and wouldn't give anything in the world for the car.

What do you got planned so far? Leave the 240z all stock, engine swap, stocker or triple carb it?

Good luck finding a Z with no rust. I thought that when I bought my Z car, that it was cancer rust free with just a few surface rust spots, but I ended up getting surprised a few times with 3 little spots of cancer rust.
