It's an antenna switch for the early Series 1 radios. Looks like someone might have changed out radios and mounted the switch on the outside of the console, as they probably couldn't find any where else to put it.

It doesn't quite match the pics of the NOS part I have, so my guess is it's either a very early part or maybe a switch from another Datsun or Japanese model from the same era.

Interesting. It does appear to be the antenna switch from an early AM radio. Even the wire colors appear to be right. Mine (Series 2, 7/71) only has the up arrow on it, same as in moonpup's pictures. My original radio owner's manual also shows only an up arrow, and no down arrow. But maybe earlier cars had both arrows?

DOH!....I should have checked xtce's profile first. Would have seen he had a 77 280 and that would have narrowed the field somewhat. (Also might have helped if I had ever owned a 280. :ermm: )

There must have been several varieties of these switches. Just last week I pulled a different type out of a 77 280Z. The AM/FM radio mounted a switch above the tuner dial.

At least Nissan stayed consistant with the connectors.

I won this console on Ebay awhile back and think it was from a 78z. Anyways, I installed it today along with new carpet. The console came with all the wiring and switches. I used the switches with this console. After installing, everything works fine except now my turn signal lights do not work at all. Not sure what caused this, but I do have my original ones and might put those back in. Also there is a ashtray light bulb with 2 wires which I didn't hook up, not sure where to connect them. I need to get a good wiring diagram.

77 2+2

Check the connectors on the passenger side right behind the front of the console. I used to intermittently lose my turn signals until I pulled

both of those apart and cleaned up the terminals. Also check the hazzard switch since the turn signals share that circuit. When I got my 78, the PO had cleverly mounted the antenna switch in the 'choke lever' hole. By doing so, of course, he had to cut the console which ruined it. That was the first item I bought (the console) when I began the refresh of my Z.
