how can i make my 78 280z auto, run a little quicker with out engine swap or turbo, turbo will come but not right know. everything is pretty much except for a little intake and a DYNOMAX exhaust system. they came with the car. it run real great and has less 100,000 miles on it, all for 500$. I have money save for performance parts but i dont know were to start. need help !

You have already started in the right place - save your money. Then do it once and do it right - L28 Turbo.... Don't waste money in the mean time....

I'm in the exact same position as you. Exhaust, intake but my my car is a 5 speed. I've decided to go with the turbo swap, so i'm not planning on doing anything until then. Right now, you could go for higher gear ratio in the rear end and perhaps and maybe a header if you plan on keeping your engine for a while before you do the turbo swap.

I would just keep the money saving up. Then once you get enough for a turbo and 5-speed, then spend the money to make the car faster.

One thing you could do is to change diff to a LOWER gear ratio. You have 3.54s now , 3.70s will give you more off the line but any lower than stock , will lower your top end. 3.70s are from a '79 2 + 2 ZX and is a R-200 diff. You have a R-180 I believe , so you would need the moustache bar also . The R-200 is a stronger diff. . This is about the least expensive of a mod you can do that will yield more performance. I did this in my Z and it does make a difference . Gary

Make a search for an L28T from a 280ZX turbo, ebay its always a good source, or in junkyards in your area.... i wish i had that option in my country... good luck with your search and your project
