Quick 240z question

On most all of the 240z's that I've seen have some type of foam wrapped around what appears to be the fuel lines with zip ties it looks to be. I haven't noticed this on any of the fi cars, so I assume it must have something to do with the carburators. Please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

I think those are for preventing vapor lock. It has been discussed before.

Fuel line insulation. Typically seen on '73 240Zs and 260Zs with flat-top carbs. Rarely needed with round-tops, but still seen on '73s with round-top conversions.

I just took mine off yesterday after I realized they were made with asbestos. That crap had to go. No need for it with the round tops anyway.

This stuff was used in a effort to stop the overheating of the fuel rail. In '73 the emissions carbs , flat tops , were introduced and the percolating of the fuel in the rail became a real problem. This is also why the electric fuel pump was added. Gary

ya like enigma said its not foam its asbestos. but it won't hurt you

Uh Well I would be really careful in disposing of asbestos. It is an extreme health hazard. People that have been exposed to it die from it years later if they accidently inhale the the asbestos fibers. Do a search on Libby Montana on google if you want to find out more.

I see thanks for the info, was this factory original on these cars?

Dealer installed modification I thought. As Arne stated, my 73 had the insulation but I removed it after I put 72 carbs on it. Not needed.
