Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover

So what your saying is the original emblem has to come off because the cut out on the cover is too small?? and you need to shave the sides of the emblem to get it to fit correctly on the cover??

Thanks for hunting down the link Will. I appreciate it.

Yup, that is exactly what I am saying, the cover is an overlay, and it fits into the openings and recesses of the original dash, making them smaller(that is why the speedo and tach can't come through their holes with the cover is installed). Shaving the emblem-if done carefully-won't even be noticeable, is easy-I used a flat bastard file-and will make the cover less noticeable. Look at the picture you posted, the depth of the emblemm cutout stands out, and the edges are noticeable in it as they cover the emblem(though not easily see in that picture). Mounting the emblem in the cut out instead of under it makes it look more as it was designed to and less as evidence something was fooled around with!

I was thinking the exact thing Will about removing the whole dash. I'm not trying to be disrespectful about the way you do it Tom. If that way worked better for you, then thats great. However I.M.O. If I were to go to the extream of pulling the entire dash, then at that point I might as well replace the whole dash with another one thats been restored. Just my thoughts.

Another question for you Will- Maybe you answered this and I missed it but when adhering the emblem to the cover, how does that work exactly with the cut out there. What does the emblem glue onto??? and what type of glue did you use? The same stuff used to secure the cover in place?

Thanks again man for the help on this subject :D

I glued a spacer to the emblem, and then the spacer to the dash-all using the adhesive that came with the cover.

I made the spacer out of two pieces of small diameter rigid pvc tubing to make cutting it to the proper thickness easy, and glued them to the emblem first.

In the 13 years I had the car and the cover in it, the emblem never came off.

The speedometer and tachometer come out the front, the small gages come out the rear.

... unless you had your dash restored in which case the newer, thicker vinyl prevents those two from going in far enough from the front. I had a real struggle installing those from the back.

Mke,

The gages come in and out of the front of my restored dash fairly easily. I did an upgrade to the tach about a year after I mounted gages in the dash(still not in the car...).

I did let it warm up in the sun before I begin, but it wasn't any tougher than pulling origianl gages out of their resting place for 30 plus years...

I have another upgrade gage or two to install after I restore them, so I will be revisiting this swap action fairly soon.
