zwhore Posted March 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2007 i am trying to decide whether or not to part this out or to weld all new metal in and paint it to sell. after i get the green 76 done in the next couple of weeks, this one is next. what do you guys think? the dash is perfect, the bumpers have only a few little spots rust, but are straight as hell.(euro one on the front) it needs both quarters, one rocker, top deck plate and some work under the battery tray. and the interior needs seats and carpet. i certainly dont want to dump a ton of money in it, only to sell it for 3 or 4 g's. it will take at least 1500 just in metal, welding and paint.(iknow a good body that can paint for cheap). any input guys. thanks tony

26th-Z Posted March 2, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 2, 2007 Cut it up and part it out. It will take you at least 3or4 to make it worth that. Save the ID tags and screw them to a nice wooden plaque (made of walnut) for your trophy room.
zwhore Posted March 2, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 2, 2007 i am by no means trying to restore her. that will be for the next owner. i just wanted to save her if possible. for about 700 bucks i can have new quarters, new rocker and new top deck plate welded in(parts and labor). and 800-1000 have her painted and any body work done.cleaning up the exsisting interior is no problem. and clean up the engine bay wont cost too much.so can i get 1500-2000 in parts, or spend 1500-2000 and sell it for 3 or 4g's. i could sell it as is. maybe get 1500. i hate having so many options and with 9 z's thats like 56813657 different options. kenz240z Posted March 2, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2007 Just a thought, but if you truly plan to sell it, then sell it as is. From what the photos show, it appears that the car would be a manageable project to refresh or restore. When I buy an older car, I'm primarily concerned with how much time/effort/money it will need to make it safe to drive. The integrity of the body and subframe is part of that determination. I'd prefer to see a car, rust and all, rather than trust that all of the body work (including the repair of structural elements) has been done properly. There are exceptions, of course, say if the car has been thoroughly and professionally "refreshed", but then it would most likely be beyond the $3000/4000 range. A lot more than that if the car has been restored. But, I'm a do-it-yerselfer, and the challenge of tackling body work, mechanical work, interior work, etc... is something I enjoy. So, my thoughts are biased in that direction. If you don't find a buyer for the car as is, you can always part it out. It sounds like the car has several good parts that other Z car owners are in need of. Then again, you may consider keeping it and working on it yourself. I'd like to have TEN Z cars! zbane Posted March 2, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2007 Do a quick fix, paint it maroon, and sell it to DaddzLOL No, seriously, You've got your hands full with possible projects. Perhaps it would be best to give it some time, and work on a different car next.
