Fuel Rail - Triple Carbs

Mike

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a good aftermarket fuel rail for a triple carb setup like the Mikunis? I've been looking around and just wondered if anyone here had some links...

I'm probably going to use a custom-built fuel rail put together by Z-Therapy, but, I remember seeing some pretty nice aftermarket billet-style units at the show.

Hi Mike,

I just did an image search, and most folks' triple setup had fuel line running in series through each individual carb. Some had it dead-end at the front carb while others had it feed into a return line...Didn't see many with a dedicated fuel rail. Is that a better way to run a triple carb setup?

Thanks,

Steve

BTW, Top End Performance sells a fuel rail for their triple ITB setup which may also work for carbs, but it's $239. www.racetep.com

There are several different solutions available Mike, the one that Ztherapy does looks like the stock solution with the additional feed for the third SU.

Mikuni's need high flow low pressure, so a solution that gets lots of fuel to the carbs is best for them, for SU's I would speak to Steve at Ztherapy.

If you look at the photos of my Z in my gallery you will see my solution for a race car. The same way BRE used to do it, which is a little different than most....

It looks like I'm going to lose the triple SU's so Steve can put them back on his car. My Mikuni's will go on next. The fuel rail is something I don't have yet. They are probably going to build me a new rail.

I like the looks of the billet style rails on the FI systems. But, do they make a square tube style for the Mikuni's ?

Mike,

The original Nissan triple-outlet hard fuel line is still available in Japan - the same one as they used to sell with the triple carb kits. Last time I looked the retail price was around 4,500 JPY or so.

I think it is a neat, effective and unobtrusive solution. I use one on one of my cars ( apologies for the crap photo ):

Alan - nice simple design. I just took the OEM SU fuel rail, cut off what I didn't need and added 3/8 lines (in and return) and then covered those with velcroed silver insulation from the same compnay that does header wrap and spark plug covers. This not only hides the aluminum lines but helps with heat raising off the header. I tried the stock fuel rail but it restricted the flow too much, so I just ended up running a new 3/8 line all the way from the tank (put in new 3/8 line there too). I liked being able to use the original mounting points.

I slit the insulation at each carb for the inlet line and made a loop at the end to bring it back to the gas tank.

My impression of the stock fuel rail is that it gets at least some if not most of it's heat from being bolted to the head. I only had vapor lock problems on one single day with my SU's, but after looking at it my solution was to eliminate the stock rail and get rid of the stock fuel pump. I never had vapor lock again. Basically what I'm saying is I'd avoid any metal line that bolts to the head.
