Travel'n Man Posted January 19, 2009 Share #38 Posted January 19, 2009 My '72 is back in the body shop getting some final touches. A few paint issues, compound/buff, badges and a black 240Z stripe. I'll post pictures. It should be out by this Friday.

I could not find a picture of a silver car but I did find one with an orange Z.
TomoHawk Posted January 19, 2009 Share #40 Posted January 19, 2009 I think the stripes look nice, but the question then would be how high (or low) on the side to put them? Is there a usual place? IMO along the bottom edge of the door.thxZ
ajmcforester Posted January 19, 2009 Share #41 Posted January 19, 2009 FYI the strips where a Datsun available add on. With the exception of the first few z cars in the US, which where sold with them on. The strips where made to cover the holes from removing the Fairlady badge from the car, the cars where sold without the Datsun side badge with a promise of getting the badges later. My 71 was sold with the strips added by the dealer.

US cars never had Fairlady badges and the side stripes don't cover any extra holes.-Mike

conedodger Posted January 19, 2009 Share #45 Posted January 19, 2009 I think the 999... part numbers were dealer added parts. Carl would know more but I think they were Datsun authorized aftermarket to pump the price.
JLPurcell Posted January 19, 2009 Share #46 Posted January 19, 2009 The usual place is to center the stripe over the fender emblem holes, so that the emblem is centered in the middle stripe. This is correct. I have the original installation instructions complete with diagram. I will try and scan it tomorrow and post it. JLP
Mike B Posted January 19, 2009 Share #47 Posted January 19, 2009 Here is the 1972 dealer accessories brochure that came with my 1972, which has the dealer added stripes. It looks like the car in many of the pictures is a series one, so I think most, if not all, of these items were available very early on. By the way, HLS30-00210 (11/69 production) has the side stripes, and I can assure you it has the original metal Datsun side emblems, and is not covering any extra holes. -Mike
