I do like the Black......but I think I'm going with White, it just stands out better than the black. But hey thats why they make both colors, everyone has different taste. However if someone has a full side shot photo of an Orange with black please post it, dk240z are your doors on yet?

As promised, picture of the Original Datsun Accessory Stripe Kit.

The stripe kit box is just the same as my visor vanity mirror. Check this out! I was just talking to Jerry about this...What other accessories came with this labeling? This is pretty early stuff. When did these first accessories get released? DOes Carl have a blurb on his site about this?

You bring up a good point, Marty. The stripes would probably put the car in the "Street Modified" class for ZCCA events. Personally, I wouldn't dock points in the "Stock" class because I know that the stripes were Datsun optional almost from the begining.

Why would you get docked points or moved to a "street modified" class for having stripes on your car if that is the way is was originally equipped from the dealer? My car came with the dealer installed stripes and the 1972 Datsun accessories brochure that the original owner kept from when he bought the car. Are you saying you would have to remove them from an otherwise stock car to be judged in the Stock class? I could see this being the case if you added them to a car that was made before the accessories were available, but otherwise I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem.

Here is a quote from the ZCCA rule book:

"A) STOCK CLASS

Vehicles exhibited must be configured exactly as shipped from factory (NOT DEALER). Cars with Dealer add-ons such, as wheels, other than stock tires, side moldings, etc. can enter this class with deductions for same. Radios, paint color, tires, etc. must be as shipped. A/C must be factory installed except 240Z which may have same A/C as installed by dealer, i.e. ARA or Frigid King, with basic York

compressor. "

Thanks for posting the rule book. I had never seen that, not that I plan on showing a car anytime soon. It seems a bit aribitrary to me that they would allow dealer installed AC, which is also in the accessories brochure, but deduct points for the side stripe kit that so many cars have. It seems like a big jump between stock and the next class (street modified)

STREET MODIFIED CLASS (Up to 15 visible modifications)

Engine - Engine block/Head is to be of same style for year of vehicle (L6 or V6). For example, a L26 or L28 in a 240Z is permitted. No turbochargers, super charges, fuel injection, or nitrous, unless originally equipped.

Interior - Any seats, except race seats, i.e., after-market without seatbelts slots, other Nissan, etc., are permitted. A 4 point mounted roll bar is OK, but not a race ready roll bar with 5 or more mounting points or cages. Stock dash needs to be retained but modifications of stock gauges are OK, if mounted in same place. Must retain interior, any carpet is permitted.

Exterior - Any paint color OK. Any tires and wheels that fit under stock wheel openings (must not protrude past the wheel well by more than ½ inch). Body kits are OK. Any exhaust system with mufflers, driving/fog lights, or suspension modifications are OK.

Jerry, just got home and checked the thread to you beat me to list the part number in your post "They were listed as an accessory item, part number;

99990-00105" and then your follow up with the pic of the actual box containing same.

Your post and evidence is irrefutable so please excuse my quest for clarity when I look at my December 1977 Parts Catalog Pub. No. C.0010R R-Drive vehicles which does not list the part number you quote but does list in Section 180-1:

K3110-00010 Set - strip racing red (Sumitomo NO3651)

K3110-00011 Set - strip racing white (Sumitomo NO3650)

K3110-00012 Set - strip racing black (Sumitomo NO3655)

My December 1973 manual on page 150-1 has the same information but clearly lists these part numbers as options.

The schematic diagram in the second parts manual does not show the wording "240Z" anywhere in or on the strip as I see in some photos of Zeds with stripes on the doors.

So might there possibly be some additional part numbers for stripes / strips on Zeds or maybe there were different stripes / strips for different markets? Despite this thought, I am certain that I have seen Australian Zeds with the 240Z embossed strips. Any further contributions on this possible anomaly or additional part numbers?

This is right up the middle but true. I like the car either way - it looks good with the stripes, but it's a fine looking car with out stripes as well. The main thing is - I like the colour of the car White stripes look good, but I can see it would be nice to have a two colours car, Orange and Black apeals to me most, but I am biased.

I've always liked the look of those stripes-it's the only graphic application that I like on a Z.

Well:

Sad story. That's about all that's left of a '73 parts car that I torched. It had been hit in the left front, so everything from the strut tower forward was trashed. But, I salvaged a good deal, and scrapped the rest. When I look back, it could have easily been fixed. But, there are still too many good cheap cars out there, which made it impractical to fix. I'm sure this will change as these cars are "torched".
